MS Contin Side Effects... | Arthritis Information

Wow, what a DIFFERENCE a week makes! I have been sleeping more (except last night...but my stomach was REALLY mad at me), am not really having to take breakthrough pain meds (just 1-2 a day....I'm allowed up to 3), and I haven't taken a muscle relaxer to help me sleep in a WEEK!!! (of course i'm out of them and have been too lazy to go pick my script up. LOL)

However. Yesterday I started getting HORRIBLE stomach pains. Not like IN my stomach, but my skin....and around my belly button. I'm bloated too (all that chocolate yesterday probably did NOT help the bloating...LOL). But my stomach/belly button is sore to the touch, which is SO wierd!!!

I'm starting to get over the nausea. I need about 1-2 phenergan a day instead of 3-4. I think my system is just slowly getting used to being on morphine!! (shoot, I'm still having problems wrapping MY mind around the fact that I have a full bottle of morphine in my cabinet!!)

I LOVE that is lasts for 12hours!!! It's like the coolest thing EVER. Oh, and I'm ITCHY all over. Ugh. In fact, I've been itching SO much the past two days that my skin looks a little raw. Benedryl helps the itching, but I'm not out of it, and well, yeah, too lazy to go get more at the store. I wonder if Claritin would work for the itching?? I will put up WITHH the itching to have my pain at about a 2-3!! (instead of the 6-8 it was still at with TWO 10/325 percocet)

I even fired my maid. I've been cleaning this past weekend! AND attending to my husband. My hips are ticked off at me though, so I think he needs to wait a few days before he gets lucky again. LOL. We haven't had THIS much "fun" since out honeymoon.LOL
Glad to hear you are feeling better. Glad you're feeling better AND having fun!

Hi Midge, I'm so glad you have found a pain med that is helping so much! The only thing I would suggest is that if the itching continues or gets any worse, call your doctor. Some of them itch a little on some people, but it could also be an allergy, if it is that bad.

I am allergic to Sulfa, Percodan, Fosomax, and a few others. The symptoms of my drug allergies are severe rashes/itching. The sulfa drug I took about 30 years ago, caused a rash under the skin. You couldn't see the rash, but I scratched my arms and legs black and blue. When the doc saw it, he told me to never let anyone give me sulfa drugs again. All the others had very visible rashes, like alligator skin.

I don't want to scare you, and it probably isn't anything, but I do think you should ask to your doc. I know you are being helped by the MS Contin, but if it is an allergy it could be serious. Good luck and please let me know how you are doing.

You post sounds so upbeat, even with the itching. I am so glad you are feeling better!

Hugs,

Nini

Nini.....I'm allergic to Sulfa too!!! I get itchy and a rash, but it's a different itch than this is...does that make any sense??

When I first started taking vicodin, I had about 2 weeks of itchiness, and then it just sort of went away. Same thing when I started percocet 3 months ago.

It's just ANNOYING!!!!!!!! I don't think the humidity we are having here in Dallas, along WITH te rain helps either. I never had allergies until I moved to Texas...and this year they have been REALLY bad. I am guessing it's just my body getting used to the morphine, and then the allergens in the air. Poor DH who has SEVERE allergies, he was outside for an HOUR a week ago...and the next morning had red hives EVERYWHERE. It was a complete allergic reaction. Sooo...I'll give it about 2weeks, and then call if it oens't get better.

God, I really want a nap right noe!! *yawns* I'm falling asleep!! (I didn't sleep much last night, too damn itchy!!! LOL)
Wow, sounds great!  I might asked to be switched.  I am taking 40mg of Oxycontin every 12 hours and get no where near that kind of relief.  My hubby hasn't gotten any in MONTHS! Glad you are feeling so much better.  It is amazing the difference when our pain is finally under control!!  Please just remember that even if our pain is under control we still have the ra to deal with and getting that stopped or slowed down.  Masking our pain is great for us to function but it also kind of a band-aid on the whole situation and we still need to be treated for the RA.  Yes Gramma. *bows down to the master Liz*

I do have ONE complaint. I've have problems going potty (like pee) since I started taking it, and the most HORRIBLE dry mouth!!

I can work with the pee thing (it's reminding me of post partum..when I was afraid to go TO the bathroom, period! LOL), but the dry mouth. Ugh. It's driving me NUTS!!!

Driving DH nuts too...cause I'm constantly sucking on something. He HATES when I do that!! LOL (I'm noisy...and it's candy, whhich drives him MORE nuts)

It sure is nice to have some pain control...wow. The itching and dry mouth are better than being in massive pain.
midge.  I am so happy for you!!   Why don't you come clean my house while you are at it?

lmao I love you midgie ;-)

Glad you and hubby are um...having fun....lol

Hey, meebo won't let me sign in...soo, yeah. Maybe I can catch you on-line tomorrow. I'm really tired, so I think I am just going to shower this evening and go to bed early. I didn't sleep well last night. (first night I didn't sleep since last Wens...and it's been kicking my butt today! LOL)
Awwww. It's the curse of the baby. LOL IT'S ALL THE BABY'S FAULT THAT MEEBO DOESN'T WORK!! >.< I'll catch you tomorrow some time. ENJOY YOURSELF. And your hubby, why the hell not. LOL

Oasis makes a spray for dry mouth and I think toothpaste and a mouth wash too.  Biotene also the same line of products.  I have used them in the past when I had horrid dry mouth from the Lyrica.  They work very well and without annoying hubby lol.

Citrus fruit is also good for dry mouth.
