Has anyone experienced hair loss from prednisone? I am starting my 7th month on 10 mg and about 3 weeks ago my hair is coming out in strands of 3 or so everytime I touch my head... I have also been on Sulfasalzine 500 1 twice a day for about 2 1/2 months. I don't think its the Enbrel as I started those 3 weeks ago....I was diagnosed with sero - neg RA  Last month. Any responces would be helpful  Thanks!!!

Chris

Yeah my hair is about half it's original thickness. i had it cut to above my shoulders to try and prevent more going. RD says it's due to long term pred but mostly to disease activity. I've been on pred for nearly a year and he said that may be causing it a little, but mostly it's the RA as it's not very well controlled right now. He said it should lessen as we get closer to controlling RA and that it will grow back. Scattered39266.3833449074

Hi, Because of the nature of these meds hair loss is surely possible after taking them. I didn't put prednisone and my hair loss together as I take methotrexate/remicade and I know mtx does cause hair loss. My hair is thinner, but ya know what, I'm feeling better (not perfect, because of still stiff hands & fingers) but getting 'there'!

I guess it's all a trade off, good luck, Lynda

I am on mtx and enbrel. I am experiencing my hair breaking off when I brush it.  Although I have thick hair it is getting thinner.
I didnt know pred could cause this. I finally weined off of pred last month.

Me too, my hair is about half its original fullness and I also cut it short, above my shoulders.  I have been on prednisone a year. Me too, about half of what I had 7 years ago, I hate it, a constant source of
irritation for me especially since I'm the one who cleans it up from
everywhere, lol. I tried Nioxin shampoo for almost 2 years which didn't do a
thing. have tried various vitamin, etc preps with no help. I think part of the
hair loss could be the auto immune disease process. I know aldactone is
being used now with some success, just don't know if I want to be on
another medication. I have seen many patients on pred and some are
almost bald while others seem to have full heads of thick hair. I also know
MTX can cause hair loss.

Yes, my hair comes out because of pred. For me it seems my hair comes out when I am on pred non-stop close to 6 months, but if I ever stop taking it or lower my dose, it does not seem to fall out as much and my hair gets thicker.

Cordelia39269.6381018519Yes, it's the Sulfasalzine. I was on 500mg, two, three times a day for a year. Methotrexate will do it too. When I went off the sulfa, it stopped and my hair recovered but now it is happening with the Metho as I have been on 20mg a week. My rheumy reduced it to 10mg this week to try and keep the hair loss under control. I have never had hair loss from Pred but hey, with this disease and the drugs we take, lol, anything is possible. I am sero neg RA too.

I myself have not experienced hair loss on prednisone, but a co-worker friend of mine experienced complete hair loss last year. It has yet to be determined if it was from the RA meds she was taking (Remicade, Arava, & Prednisone), or if it was another type of auto-immune disorder, specifically Alopecia Areata.

Guess there's really no way of knowing for sure, but after a full year, her hair is just now starting to grow back in.

Pred for 7 years hair loss exactly like you say and also lots of strands turning white very  quickly, has anyone noticed this, love Janie.

Boy It really makes you wonder , my hair continues to thin since my post. People are telling me everyone's hair falls out, my Gp said count on 100 strands a day...Ok Am I crazy? LOl I think not..I tried to cut down on the prednisone my self 10 -7.5  , And yuk I felt like crap. I called the Rhumy and she said to remind her of a thyroid test when i see her Wednesday. I agree with you guys  its the pred or the Sulfazine....!!!!!!!!!!

I have bald spots now, and very thin hair. I hate it. I've been on MTX and Prednisone, but the hair didn't start falling out a lot until my MTX was increased to 20 mg.  It's depressing. Nothing like being a puffy bald chick between the prednisone and MTX.  Have I mentioned that I hate it?

On the upside, I hardly ever have to shave my legs cause now the hair is so fine and there is so little of it.I take 20 mg of MTX plus enbrel and I'm losing my hair too.  People say they can't notice it, but I do.  I see a little more skin than I used to and I KNOW that's true.  I see RD Tuesday, last time he said this time we'd start cutting the MTX dose.  It sucks going bald at age 43.  I have more sympathy for the other gender than I used to in this matter.Yes my hair is now much thinner and I have less of it than before I was prescribed predisone however I am also taking methotrexate, hydroxychloroquine and remicade so I can not say which one drug is at falt or it all of them. I am a fifty year old guy hair is really not an issue for me anymore.

Upside, I used to shave my legs once a day in the summer.  Gotta love those Am. Indian genes!!LOL Now it's maybe once a week.  Of course if I am feeling crummey I say to H*ll with it and go out anyway!!  I love getting older.
