Hi all, anyone familiar with this disease aphasia? Thanks, LyndaAphasia and dimentia are totally different.
When I had a stroke 10 years ago I was left with my left side paralyzed and aphasia.( speech disorder) I got 99% better after 6 months of therapy and now no one can tell I ever had a stoke.
But most people who have had a stroke suffer from some degree with aphasia.
If you were to hear a person with Aphasia speak you might think they are retarded but that is NOT the case. There words seem to slur.
The morning after I had a stroke my eyes were crossed, my face fell on one side , my left side was paralyzed, and my speech was really screwed up. I thought maybe someone oughta shoot me. My little sister said I aged 10 years.
No one ever found out why I had a stroke at 50 years old and I stopped
thinking about it because there dosent seem to be an answer. So, I
just go on my merry way.
Well, I wouldn't say exactly retarded. LOL
I have quite a bit of aphasia from a stroke/adverse reaction to medication. I think of aphasia as the ability to see or 'know' the word but the inability to get it out of my mouth. I have particular problems with the beginnings of words. Like if it starts with a D I'll go thru a lot of similar D words until I come to the right one. Most people, because of my speech patterns, think I'm an air head. I'm not but I joke about it so they feel more comfortable.

I had aphasia when my inflammation levels were high and I was at my worst. It is very peculiar. Like Pip I often said a word that had a similiar sound or a related word like "soup" instead of "salad". It is very frustrating. Fortunately it cleared up when I began to feel better.

That is really cool.
Wish that would work for me.
