Please excuse me if this topic has been around recently, I have a sieve for a memory bank.  If this has already been discussed tell me and I will go searching.

But I wondered if anyone else has seen a dramatic increase in allergies or allergic reactions since being DXed?

I have new allergies and the old ones have gone thru the roof.  I am now on 2 prescribed allergy meds and also Flonase (prescription nasal spray).

crispy39266.8245023148I have had crazy allergies since having RA. I always blamed it on moving.
I lived in DC and then moved to a town surrounded by mountains.
Basically the valley becomes a bowl and everything is trapped. My first
week at school setting up my classroom I kept breaking out in hives.
When they did the allergy testing I tested postive to 20 out of the 23
items.
I now get allergy shots and take meds.

Give me smog anyday over mountain air!

I would be intrested to hear if other people think it is the RA--especially
if a dr. told you so.

crispy--have you had testing done?rocckyd39266.8284490741

Yes, had testing done, 21 out of 23

But I would love to hear if anyone else has heard the same thing.

Nope.  My allergies improved when I started biologics and I haven't had a sinus infection since.  Prior to biol. I had chronic sinusitis.  I know it's contrary to the literature and what others experience.  LindyI've had environmental allergies since I was small. They have definitely gotten worse since my RA diagnosis though. For years I was maintained on Claritin, but a couple of years ago it stopped working. I'm now on Zyrtec, Vancenase Inhaler, and OTC Chlortrimeton for breakthrough symptoms.
