New to Enbrel - headaches | Arthritis Information

Hello all,

I successfully administered my third Enbrel injection today.  Still hoping to feel something positive soon.  Perhaps tomorrow will be better.

On the day of my injection I am experiencing a terrible headache, isolated on the top of my head.  The headache lasts all day and begins about 5 hours or so following the injection.  Otherwise, I have not had any side effects.  (I have had migraines for years, but this does not feel similar.)

Any ideas of what I can do to reduce the headaches?  And should this subside after my body adjusts?

Happy Fourth of July!

Hi,

I take mine in the evening so hopefully I sleep through the worse of the side effects.  I do get the headache at times the next day but never very bad.  That is all I know to do but maybe others will have more tips.

I hope the Enbrel works for you soon.

Do you take plaquinel? I had migranes! when taking it??Never had headaches before that....Lynda

Hi there,

Like Bonny, I too do my Enbrel injections in the evenings.  Perhaps that's something you could try or would it keep you awake?  Are you on other medications as well?  I'm having icky side effects from Plaquenil and it tears my stomach up.  With most people the side effects from these drugs do eventually subside...unfortunately not always and some people do find that they cannot tolerate certain drugs at all.  It's like that for me with MTX.  You should discuss any concerns with your doctor.  I hope you feel better soon and the headaches stop.  Good luck & keep us posted.

Peace & Love...Neasy

PS....I was going to try to catch up on some posts but it's storming like crazy outside so I guess this is the last one for me until it passes.

I always got a headache too - 18 months of headaches but they grew milder over time.

When I switched to remicade they gave me benedryl with it - no headache , remicade without benedryl - headache.

I think if you took your shot in the evening with benedryl you would wake up feeling fine.

Thank you for your suggestions!  I believe I will try taking the Enbrel in the evening next week with Benadryl.  I know Benadryl alone makes me sleep well, so this will hopefully be a good alternative.  Right now the headache feels like there is an intense amount of pressure on the top my head.

I am also taking Plaquenil, DayPro, Nexium, Darvocet, Amitiza, Fortical Spray and Folic Acid.  I typically take the majority of these with dinner, as this is usually my largest meal of the day.  Regrettably, I am easily nauseated.  (I began taking the Plaquenil a couple of months ago without any problems.)

Do you think one can get overloaded with too many drugs?  Or maybe I should try equally spacing them out during the day?

Hi,

I got a headache a few hours after my injection - like a tension headache or one when you haven't drunk enough water on a hot day. It went off with some paracetamol and drinking lots of water. I was warned about headaches as a side effect... Here's hoping it won't happen every time! Having the injection at night sounds like a good idea - then I can take a stronger painkiller and sleep it all off!
