I saw this article while browsing today.  It is one of the most thorough descriptions of the disease and the medications that I've seen.  I thought others might be interested in taking a look, especially newcomers to this disease.

Thank you, Alan. This is an excellent article.Dear Alan, Good article, we all need as much info as we can about this dang disease. thanks, Lyndathanks Alan, an excellent site, very informative and well written.  Plan on spending some time tomorrow reviewing the whole site.  Lindy

If you are thinking of taking the new biologics, like Enbrel, Remicade or Humira a must read new book is Arthritis without pain...the miracle of TNF Blockers. Very simple to read. Get it second hand cheap on Amazon.   very comprehensive, not bogged down and answers every question.  Except the one about DO NOT TAKE echinacea if you feel run down.

Thank you for the link !

I shall spend some time reading it properly

The part that I found interesting was the statement "At this time, no data is available on the effects of rituximab when it comes to slowing radiographic progression of the disease."

That's certainly not what my RD told me when I was tried on Rituxan 6 months ago. Hmmmm....

The part I found interesting was:

For example, researchers have shown that, among patients with early RA, there is a correlation between susceptibility to infection and type (upper respiratory infection or urinary tract infection) dependent upon single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in TNF, LFA and Fcy receptor genes.27

So that neucleotide can be developed for another test?  Like for myco's?

Brisen,

The article was published about a year ago so it might not be up to date on recent study results.
