swollen eyeballs?!? | Arthritis Information

Okay so I am pretty sure that I have heard about...or read about people saying that their eyeball swell with RA/flares...and I guess I never really had it happen or knew it was happening to me. I thought it was something that would happen if you were just really swollen everywhere and you would have vision problems. But here is the thing...a few weeks ago I suffered a toothbrush related eye injury. Yeah..I know..sounds weird right? Not as strange as you may think....just clumsy. I use a kid size toothbrush as an eyebrow brush since I use mineral powder make up. I was getting ready to brush my eyebrows and accidentally poked my eye with the brush.

So at any rate, I had a corneal abraision and those heal pretty quick. I felt better and went for about a week with no other notice of the toothbrush in the eye tragedy. But then one day I woke up and in the same spot were the abraision had been, I felt like there was something there. I get this occaisionally when I wake up even still.

What I am thinking is that my eyes are swelling and that is causing me to feel the scar that is there. I dunno....it sounds crazy but maybe it isnt.

I dont particulary want to go to an opthalmologist cuz they will want to poke at my eye even more.

So I am just wondering...do any of you get EyEbALL swelling..and if so, how can you tell?Go see your Opthlamologist.  ANY swelling within the eye should be checked out.  You would hate for what you assumed to be a slight abrasion to turn into something that would threaten your sight.  This sounds like a problem far more associated with the poke in the eye than anything related to RA.I'd have your eye checked out if I were you,  You don't want to mess with your eyes.  Mine hurt just reading about your accient. Oh ow.  Yeah...that needs to be checked out.  It's kinda like when the guys get sl*g in their eye and they have to go in to make sure their eyes are ok.

Ouch!  Definately go get your eye checked out hon.  You don't want to mess around with anything that has to do with your eyes.

Peace & Love...Neasy

Try using lubricating drops, A LOT!  I prefer the systane, its an otc drop and you will need to use it at least 4 times a day.  If that doesn't help you definitely need a trip to the eye doc.  You probably still have a mild abrasion there and its being irritated from being dry, especially with the air running so much right now!

I was actually just there this am.  Persistent, nasty case of uveities.  I have been on the steroid drops too long, so they switched me to xibrom, its supposed to be an aspirin based anti inflammatory, will use it tonight.  Was also given Pataday, its an antihistamine and was scolded for not using my lube enough!  Get to go back in two weeks for the full, dilated exam. Ow hunny!!! Get that checked.

On a lighter note, I've had a toothbrush related eye injury from my REGULAR toothbrush. So don't feel so bad. Crunchy I am bring this up from second page because I saw this earlier.
Last month I was out in the yard working. I have some tomatoes plants in containers with sticks in them. I call them tomato sticks but they are broken sticks and the edges are rough.

Well, my container was right next to the water spigget and I bent down to turn the spigget on and  I injured my eye. Man that really hurt.
So, I went to my opthamologist and he gave me antibiotics and something else ( all drops ) and I saw him 3 times that week for him to check it and finally he said everything was fine.
Well, a few days ago I noticed I felt like I had something in my eye again. So, maybe your theory is right. The feeling went away the next day. Hmm, maybe my eye was swollen.
I was so lucky I didnt poke my eye out. I felt really stupid but the doctor said" I wasnt the first to do this with a tomato stick" Would you beleive that??
Thinkthinn39272.5685648148Crunchy, you REALLY need to see the doctor about this. Please call him
ASAP and I bet her will get you in early to check this out. You don't want a
problem that is irreversible. Please keep me posted.

Hey guys...thanks for all the concern..lol..you know the last thing I want to hear is to go to the eye doc...I am okay with regular doctors but when it comes to dentists and opthalmologists I just cringe! I refuse the test where they blow air in my eye because I am such a weenie...but..sigh...I am due for an eye exam anyways so I guess I will add that to my "to do" list. BTW Thinkthin...just the first paragraph of your story had me cringing! That sounds awful.

I know I could have gotten some xylacaine drops and some gentamyacin ointment or drops for pain and antibiotics...but I didnt want to be poked at anymore so I skipped it. I guess I need to get things checked though. So I will tuck my tail between my legs and call the doc like a good puppy.

Run, to a opthalmologist, take care of your eyes or you could end up like me, quite a few years ago a safety pin stuck me in the eye,
