AAAAUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!  The vexations of a suppressed immune system!!!!!

So...we went swimming yesterday at the park district pool.  Was a ton of fun.  Brought our chairs that we used on 4th of July when we went to the see the fireworks.  Now the following is just a theory of my itchies.  But I think I am right.  My husband sprayed (cough cough choke choke) a perimeter bug spray around where we were sitting so we would not get eaten alive.  It worked well.  We didn't get eaten alive.  HOWEVER we come home from the pool yesterday and about ohhh 3-4 hours later he and I are just itching away.  Of course....I GET HIVES.  Stupid immune system.  Stupid meds.  BLAH.  Everywhere my hair touched me I broke out in hives.  Of course he just itches.  I think it is from the chairs.  We were wet...sat in the chairs...and viola...contact dermatitis.  Spent a horrid night itching because I don't know if I can take Benedryl with my blood pressure meds.  Turns out I can thank goodness.  So today I am a sleepy groggy mess lol.  The only thing I can figure out is why I got hives and he didn't is my suppressed immune system.

In retrospect this is kinda funny lol.  You should have seen the way the pharmacy tech was looking at me when I went to pay for the Benedryl and ask if I could use hydrocortisone cream with it lol.  He didn't wanna touch the money I was holding lol.  Can't say that I blame him lol.  I am just not going to go out if I can avoid it til these ridiculous hives decided to cease and desist.  Oh man I look so funny lol.

There is everyone's giggle for the day lol.

OMG... glad you and hubby got to go to the pool.  But so sorry about the itchy hives Well, I hope your fun day was worth it, it sounds like it was =).  But why did you break out in hives wherever your hair touched your skin?Did you go in the water at all? Could it be the excess chlorine that is in your hair from swimming? That could be such a combo of crap. Chlorine with your shampoo/conditioner. Bug spray with chlorine with shampoo.......You should just live in a bubble. I mean really.

EEWWWW Liz has the funk!!! HAHAAHAA!

Just kidding. What about taking clariton so you wont be so groggy? It works great for my hives and eczema and it is only once a day that you take it. Well...I dont know if it is the meds or just part of the RA but I started my skin sensitivities a few years before my RA got bad enough to be on meds. It seems to be a less common but not completely rare symptom. Maybe you are just gonna be more sensitive to things. I was never allergic to latex untill about 5 years ago. I don't think it is a sun allergy since it is only my face, neck, shoulders, and some of my chest with the hives.  Wherever my hair touched my skin.

Still have hives. Still itching. Altho the hives have gone down a little bit.  Danny is fine

Even went thru the house and washed every single thing I touched I could wash.  Other things got wiped down.

Maybe the RA in general makes us more sensitive to stuff.  UGH!!!

If it isn't one thing it's another.  Today is a good day to take Benedryl and sleep anyways.  Icky weather coming in.  Damaging winds with some storms.  I gotta take down my hanging plants.  I'm thinking of making a melody to go along to the beat of my throbbing feet.

I'm with Lindy.  When I get my sun reaction, it's usually only on the upper part of my body (although occasionally on the tops of my feet) and anything that could irritate it (like my hair) makes it worse.  The face, neck, shoulders and chest are my prime spots.  Also the ears and forearms.  And, the reaction tends to happen a couple hours after the exposure.

So Miz Liz, were you wearing sunblock??  Ya know we're at risk...

Hey Crunchy...what happens with your latex sensitivity?  I've noticed that in the last, say, month or two that when I wear rubber gloves I get these blister like bumps on my hand.  They don't itch or anything, but it never used to happen.  Ack, sorry to hear about the hives!  I can honestly say I have never had them but they sound awful!  I hope you had lots of fun to make up for the misery now! EWW!! Grammaskittles gotsa COOTIES!! And Boy COOTIES at that!!

I am staying far, FAARRR away from her... I do not want boy cooties! EWW!! EWW! EWW!Gramma, So sorry you got hives. There must be something about RA and allergies, especially skin sensitivities. I get hives from things like touching silk. If I take certain medications I break out in hives. Chlorine can add to the misery if you're already sensitive to something. Hope the itching is gone by the time you get this. Linda

Yes I was wearing sunblock Mom.  LOL.  I am a redhead!!!  Well...auburn lol.  I have always used sunblock anyways and even more so now since I am on not only RA meds where you have to avoid exposure to the sun...but other meds as well where you have to avoid the sun.

Great just great....chlorine can add to my misery.  I love to swim.  BAH!  Looks like I will be popping Benedryl before I go swimming again.

hey dont they have to add certain chemicals to make the water however its soposed to be?  ( in know nothing about that if you couldnt tell)  Maybe it couldve been a reaction between all those chemicals, the bug spray and all the meds..who knows Well, here. Look at this page that is *JUST* about chlorine. Think of all the interactions that this ONE thing could possibly have, given all the info here. Then multiply that by all the OTHER chemicals - in your hair, pool, bug spray....etc etc etc. Scary, really.
