What’s Growing... | Arthritis Information

in the back of my mouth.   I have this feeling like something is stuck at the back of my mouth, it doesn't hurt, its about 3/8 of an inch round and white.  Its on the left side, behind my tongue.  My left ear is itchy.  It's making me gag (more than usual).  Any ideas?

Get your butt (and mouth) to a dentist ASAP.

Like today.

Tell the office its an emergency..just show up and tell them you have a growth in your mouth. the dentist can spare 6 minutes to get a good look.

Pammy, is it your tonsil?  Sometimes with  infections like strep your tonsils swell and turn white.  I think I would start at your doctor first.  You may need some antibiotics.  Sometimes people can be silent carriers of strep, without having symptoms, or the symtoms are so mild they don't recognize them.

It could be Thrush and I totally agree with getting to a Dr.  I had severe Thrush and this sounds a lot like it.

Good luck

My daughter has a dr appt in the morning, I think I might piggy back on her appt

I think its in front of my tonsil or even near the eustacian tube or something and thats why inside my ear itches,  I think it must be some kind of infection.

Hi Pam- get to the dentist, it does sound as if you have strep. It could also be an abcess. Let us know

take care

Pam, can you feel a lump just below your ear on your neck? That's exactly what happened to me. Weird feeling in the throat, "itchy" ear/ear area - but I also had a lump. They thought it was cat scratch fever, but it turned out to be an infection that had blocked the eustacian tube. Took several tries on about 4 different antibiotics before we found one that worked. They were some HEAVY DUTY anti-biotics used for people who had been traveling in ASIA. :| Whatever, it worked. Haha GET IT CHECKED OUT!!!!

I would say strep or thrush, but definitely see the doctor.

Another possibility...a couple of years ago after five bouts of strep in five months (after which I developed fibro BTW), my right tonsil became permanently swollen.  Unfortunately, food often gets stuck in the folds of it and irritates it.  It looks white because it is partially digested (ewww, I know).  I have talked to my doctors who suggest I gargle (they have no idea how lodged it gets), but the only solution I have found is to take a long instrument (ok, I use the back end of an eyelash brush) to dislodge it.  Even a small piece can give me a sore throat and sometimes itchy or achy ear.  Apparently the only permanent solution would be to get my tonsils removed, but they're reluctant to do that on an adult unless it's an absolute necessity.

Ooooo now that I think about it:

My ex-bf had round, golf ball like tonsils. With the pits of a golf ball and everything. Whenever he'd start to get sick, they would all fill with little white dots. If he didn't want to get sick, he would take a q-tip and wipe them all out. Then he'd be fine. He was weird. But it was kinda cool to watch him swipe the little white things out. Hehehe ew!!

See if you can gently scrape some off - if you can it is a yeast over growth called thrush. Hydrogen peroxide gargling may help you if it is thrush, or salt water if you don't have peroxide in the house. See a doc. Soon

I'd definitely see a doc.  My mom has a benign growth in her mouth that sounds a lot like that.  It's an outgrowth of bone.  She is having it removed because it is inhibiting her speaking - but the dentist said that they are not uncommon and they are not harmful.  Hoping that it is something that is easily taken care of.  Please let us know and good luck.

Hugs,

Jen
