Whats the average dose of MTX weekly?
I don't know what exactly the average dose is. I think whatever works for you. My doctor started me out on 10 mg, and then upped it to 20 at my next visit and then started me out taking injections of it at my next visit so that my body would absorb more. I asked her why I just couldn't take more pills orally and she said that once you get to 20mg your body really doesn't absorb more orally and you have to take it by injections. So I guess I didn't really answer your question but from my experience 20mg is the most, and what I've heard is what a lot of people are on, but I think they try and keep you on as much works for you? I assume the less the betteR?

Brit, I've been taking mtx for a few months and I started taking 10mg/week and I'm still at that doseage.

I'm not sure of the average. I've been taking 25 mg for years now. I'm now having problems with a low white blood cell count and had to go off the MTX for a month. It's still lower than it should be, but I'm back on the MTX.

I've been on 22.5 mg for about two years....and my doctor wouldn't increase it anymore. He added Humira because he felt like an increase really wouldn't do much more.
10 mg for me. Too scared to go higher, as I nauseate very easily, and haven't found anything that works for that, at least that's legal!!!!

25mg for me. Rheumy tells me that's the highest recommended dosage. No problems for me with it, so I guess he's just going to continue with that dosage.My reason for writing was that I felt a little stiffness again yesterday which usually happens as I'm due to take my next dosage of MTX. It was slightly there this morning so I emailed my doctor who suggested that I 'up' the amount slightly to get rid completly. I'm going to be taking 17.5mg on Sunday and he said to take 20mg the next week. I don't think I'll need this much though seen as my pain is minimal right now! We'll see
