Prednisone side effects? | Arthritis Information

(Apologies if this crosses over with the other pred thread, but I didn't want to be rude and hijack the thread!)

I was wondering what sort of side effects people here have had with the pred?

When I first went on it, I was told about the potential bone thinning, weight gain and acne, but recently I've been doing some research on the net and it seems it can cause all manner of things! Like dizziness, depression etc.

I'm interested because sometimes I feel very strange, like a bit off balance, and not quite all there, with a bit of almost numbness in my face, and anxious, also with eye probs (like it takes a lot of effort to focus) and a bit shakey. I was wondering whether steroids could cause this sort of thing? I've been checked for pretty much everything so I know its nothing very bad. It could be a vitamin deficiency I guess, but I'd heard that long term steroidal use can cause all sorts of funny effects!

Apologies for ranting on and on again (I seem to do that in all my posts)

Well... to my knowledge I have only had decreased bone density, weight gain, gain/loss of appetite, acne, hair loss, mood swings and sleeplessness.

I might have more side effects I am unaware of, but hopefully I do not.

I get unbalanced, but I think that comes with have RA. The numbness I am not sure of.

Hi, I really disliked the 'moon face' this came to me after a couple of months of being on 15mgs. (that's what I'm starting with for 1 week only, then going to 10 asap, and then 5mgs). The bone thinning is  real concern, and wikipedia can give you a better overview of what can happen to you. good luck sorting thi s out. LyndaDepression definitely.  The eye focus thing is probably from dryness, autoimmune diseases and prednisone both can cause dry eye, try an over the counter drop like systane.  Some people do complain about dizziness but I think higher doses cause this more than a low dose, but that's just may experience!  Being on the pred for a year now has actually seemed to clear up my acne!

It causes a diabetics blood sugar to rise so I can not take pred.  Makes things difficult sometimes.

Karen

the biggest side effect i noticed was a clean house the next day

ok, I guess I should explain...

I didnt sleep the first two nights, pain was instantly gone, so I took advantage of feeling better and cleaned at all hours.

weight gain and yes I have had some dizziness.i get prednisolone diabetes even though i am not a diabetic. when on it i have to keep a check on sugar levels. i get really moody and on high doses i get heart palpitations.Owiedeb, I had the same side effect, lots of energy. Pred was the relief I needed to get me over the worst flare I've ever had. My blood sugar numbers shot up, but I just took more insulin. I've been off it since Jan. and miss how much better I felt when I was on it.
