Sores on throat | Arthritis Information

Hi friends

I just wanted to ask the experts if anyone has experience with sores on their throat.  I think I've read posts about this before, but not sure if it was the same thing (can't remember). For the past few days I have had sores in my nose, now this morning I have a sore or sores on my throat.  Not a sore throat, I am not sick and do not have a fever, just the usual RA pain and fatigue.

I have had sores on my throat before where I swallow, but these are down very low.  When I swallow food it is hard to swallow when it gets to that certain point (not because of the pain, but feels like its swollen and won't let the food go through.) Chest feels a little achey too.

Anyone ever have this?  If so, do you know what causes it and what I can do for relief and to help them heal?

thanks guys, have a great weekend!

Pam

I've had one in my nose recently. It seemed to take forever to clear up...but it's gone now.

I get what I call fever blisters on my lips at times really bad!! Some would blame that on MTX, but I've gotten them like this since I was a small child; usually after an illness or too much sun.

I don't think I've ever had anything in the throat before though Pam. Hope it's not too painful and it all clears up soon.

Lovie

Pam,  I have problems swallowing sometimes.  This started happening since ra.  Like my throat is swollen.  It is very scary.  I have choked a few times because I panic.  Sores in the throat sounds very painful and maybe dangerous.  This is one maybe you should see your doctor about.

The only sores Ive had are sores in the mouth. I know sometimes Ill even get them on the inside of my jaw. I would ask RD about it and see if there is anything that would help your throat.

Hello Panel,

does anyone know anything about Sjogren's syndrome, I've been trying to figure out this throat problem and I hope I don't have this.

Do you think I might have this??  If I do I think maybe I'd rather not know.

I'll ask the RD in August, I better start reading something else though, I don't have room for anymore diseases at my house

We are about to loose the humor post from Cheryl to the second page, does'nt anyone have a funny story to add?  Joonie??

Have a good night everyone,

I agree with you Pam. I'm tired of any more illnesses. I too think I might have Sjogerns. I'm going to ask my Dr. for a test. I have all the symptoms. Dry eye, dry mouth and now I feel like my throat is swollen. I have gotten sores in my mouth from metho. But, the more I used it, the lesser I got. This whole autoimmune system failure is really getting to me. It takes longer for things to heal. I'm like the healthiest person in my family and look what I have to deal with. No fair!  This summer has been terrible. It started out with a UTI and bowel problems. Then cornea problems. Then poisen ivy 2x. I've actually had to be off the metho. during this time and now can't wait to talk to the dr. to get some relief in my entire body!

MTX can cause the sores in your nose and also some sores in the mouth. For the sores in your nose theres an ointment that will heal them up, Mupirocin 2%. Its prescription only. As far as Sjogrens goes there is a medication that works really well for that, Evoxac. It is also prescription. I tried something else first but it didn't work nearly as well. I use over the counter moisture eyedrops. Sjogrens can be a complication of RA, but some of the meds we take can cause the dry mouth etc. Only your Dr can tell you if thats what you have going on.

Barb

I'm just going to call it "dry eye" for now because I just can't face anything else at this point.

He didn't seem overly concerned...almost as if it was to be expected.

Hey Lovie,

yeah, I've been reading that many people with RA are eventually dx'd with Sjogren's.  Do you have any of the other "classic" symptoms?  Do you know if there is a specific test to determine a definate dx?  Just curious.

Barb; Thanks, I'm not on MTX so that is'nt it.  I'll let you know what the RD says, but my apt is not until the 11th.  Throat is better today, nose feels pretty good too

  Pam

Pam,  You are getting way too cute with these.

OHHHHHHHHH  NOOOOOOOOO!!

Hellllllllllp, I can't stop!

I'm glad you guys are having fun with it!! I makes it interesting doesn't it?

Pam; my doctor didn't give me any sort of test, so I don't know. I guess maybe he's just assuming I have it since my eye doctor diagnosised me with the dry eye. That's the main reason I'm not worrying about it too much.

I haven't had many symptoms that I know of....then again I haven't had much time to research it either. Post a link if you have. I need to read up on it. My problems have just been with my eyes. I now have a red spot in one of my eyes; don't know if it's related...but I have had a time with them this weekend.

Happy Monday everyone!!

Hi Lovie,

I'm sorry you're eyes are bothering you so.  Are you using any artificial tears between your perscription drops to keep them well lubricated?

Here is a link with signs and symptoms of Sjogrens

I would'nt be surprised if that's whats going on with me too.

keep your eye out, I'm going to email Joonie my wedding pic today if I can scan it and get it to her (sounds easy, I know, but for me it's a major undertaking

have a good day,
