Infections while on Pred? | Arthritis Information

Have any of you folks who have long experience with pred had any problems with infections? It's mid winter here and I am terrified of getting sick, I just can't afford to, I feel I just couldn't cope with even a cold, let alone influenza. Colds always turn into bronchitis in me anyhow. So I rarely go out and when I do, I wrap my face up in a scarf so I don't breathe in all the droplets the coughing sneezing people are hacking out in the supermarket! With that, and a hat pulled down low and collar turned up, people really stare, they must think I'm a terrorist! And then I hand-sanitise as soon as I get out of the shop, and wash up when I get home. So far OK, BUT I have not managed to avoid a nasty vaginal thrush infection, 10 days into my pred. I am prone to get them anyhow, and always do with antibiotics or even just hormonal fluctuations. So I guess I should have expected it, being on steroids. Anyone else have this problem? I'm treating it with an over-the-counter 6 day treatment, but I wonder if this is going to be on-going, as long as I am on pred. YUKKK! I haven't had colds or flu or yeast or anything, thank God.  They say you are more suseptible, though, while on the drug from hell.  It really is wonderful and awful all at the same time.

Hi Chico

Yes the wonderful world of this pill that likes to keep giving.  I am starting again to have a vaginal yeast infection.  I'm trying to deny that it is starting again but its not working lol.  I had it before I managed to get off pred.  It was the worse I have every had it.  I had a prescription for it twice and on the second round had to take a pill.  Finally went away.  Now have been put back on pred because my rhemu doc said I had to.  Last night and this morning I can feel it coming back.  I hope my regular doc gives me the prescription for the same medication.  I do know the over the counter one didn't help much and seem to make it worse.  I hope you get over yours.

Hang in there, it has to get better Right?

Anna
