Hi, I was just wondering if anybody with rheumatoid arthritis has any experiences with chiropractors or physio therapists, and if so, how successful has this sort of treatment been for their condition? Also, has anyone experienced neck pain? At the moment I am suffering with pain in my neck and also an aching pressure in my head. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hiya Lynda,

I've never seen a chiro or physio, but I did have a session of Bowen therapy
last week that got me walking without a limp again. Bowen is like muscle
manipultaion and bone cracking mixed together It was a bit
uncomfortable to have done, but I felt SO much better when I walked out. He
mainly concentrated on my legs, hips, back and neck. The relief lasted a few
days and the limp still hasn't come back yet. Apparantly I was limping
because I was using my hips and legs muscles to compensate for my sore
knees. I'm thinking about having it done on a regular-ish basis, because it's
not outrageously expensive, and if I get a few days relief out of it every time
I'd be over the moon with joy and rapture.

LYNDA--I GET HORRIBLE MUSCLE SPASMS IN MY NECK AND SHOULDERS AND HAVE GOTTEN SOME RELIEF FROM CHIROS.  THEY ALSO HAVE MASSAGE THERAPY AS WELL THAT IS HELPFUL.  I'M FOR ANYTHING THAT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER AND MY INSURANCE COVERS IT AS WELL!!  I WOULDN'T GO IN A BAD FLARE THO BUT I WOULD RECOMMEND IT ANY OTHER TIME.....HELPS ALSO WITH HEADACHES FROM STRESS IN NECK AND SHOULDER MUSCLES.   GOOD LUCK TO YOU DEAR!

Be careful having anyone manipulate your spine in anyway. Inflammation is a hallmark of our disease and manipulation while an area is inflammed is not a good idea. I have had 4 surgeries on my neck and have all levels except one fused and plates and screws put in. If anyone had made a wrong move on my neck 2x I could have been paralyzed. I have nothing against Chiropractors, I just don't think it adviseable to be manipulating on people like us. Normal people are another thing entirely. Now massage is an entirely different thing, massage can benefit all of us and it feels so good.

As Barb said, massage is a different thing.  I have found it really does help my neck out a lot to have a deep tissue massage.

Karen, that is wonderful that your insurance covers massage. What a wonderful benefit!
