I used to run alot till I got hit with RA in Feb.  Since the RA has been controled, I have switched over to an elliptical trainer, afraid to mess up my knees.  I'm dying to go for a real run tonight, but I don't know, could that trigger a flare??  Or is it just a try it and see what happens kinda thing?  I know no one can say what will or won't happen, I guess I just want to know if it would likely cause a flare.  Don't want to go through that again if I can help it.

You never know....what triggers a flare for me may not for you.  I say do what you feel like and go from there.  I suspect you might need to do some adjustments to your running schedule, but maybe not completely forgo running all together.

Keep us posted!!!  Remember, you can't really live in fear of having a flare all the time, but by the same token.....have respect for the disease.  If you don't, it has ways of MAKING you

I say go for it. That way if it does make you flare, you will know not to do it again. Sometimes you have to do something to know how it will affect you.

Hope you have a nice run!

Can I ask you a question? How is the elliptical? I am thinking of getting one. I can swim and bike but my feet get bad when I walk. It looks to me like I could do an elliptical without bending my feet at the toes, which is the problem area.

BTW, go for a short run and see what happens, just do much less than you would have in the past.

I say go for it!! But like others have said ...take it slowly. Try for a short run at first.

GOOD LUCK!

OK..a short run for me!  Thanks guys

Laker...I really like the elliptical.  Your toes shouldn't bother you if all they need is to stay flat.  It's easy on the knees too and it's a great cardio work out, better they say, than a run on the treadmill.  Before you buy, maybe you could get a day pass at a gym and try one out see if you like it. Well, I guess you can try them out at the store for free.  Let me know what you thnk, k?
