Does anyone else have lateral (side) chest pain? I have this foreign body sensation on the right side of my chest, beneath the breast bone...it's really starting to scare me.Yes I started feeling like a chest pain, I thought I was having a heart atttack! Now it is on both sides of my ribs! Hi, I too have had chest pain on the left side of my ribs. Actually now that I think back, this was the first sign that anything was wrong.  I had had severe chest pain in the same spot on and off for years believe it or not.  My old GP dianosed it as costochondritis.  Well, 2 years ago now, I was diagnosed with AS. I still get the chest pain occasionally- its worse upon taking a deep breath.

Yes, this pain is so bad that it feels like electrical shock is being sent between my ribs and down my spine.  It even seems to cause muscle spasms in my back.  The best explanation of it, that I have been able to find on the net, is "PLEURISY".  The Mayo Clinic website has a very clear description of it at www.mayoclinic.com/health/pleurisy/DS00244

Does anyone else have any idea of what may cause that sensation?

Is there such thing as inflammation of the intercostal tissues?  I haven't asked my Dr. about this yet.  There is only so much you can deal with in a short office visit.

Perhaps we can all start a chat group to learn from each other's experiences and trials.

How long does it take to get a correct diagnosis?

OMG!  I have not been diagnosed with RA/AS but I do have psoriasis!  I too have very sore rib pain under my left breast, works its way around the left side to my spine.  Hurts to sneeze (for couple of years now!)  worse now.  I have been on enbrel for about 3 months for psoriasis (hands/feet) it cleared beautifully but just out of the blue I developed severe joint pain in my hips, hands, knees, ankles and elbows.  I just started to play golf and thought it was from the "new sport!"  I live on advil and wonder if I have AS/RA? This is so frustrating!  Any advice?
Thank You,
Monja
For any of you that haven't been diagnosed or haven't seen a doctor about this......call your doctor and get an appt.  Chest pain is just that chest pain, could be anything, including cardiac issues.  If it is costochronditis you'll know in the future how to respond to the chest pain.

Monja, It could be PsA and RA or you might just have PsA.  Have you had xrays of your hands or feet.  You need to have a workup for PsA.  Treatment is virtually the same but if you have it, it should be documented.  I have PsA along with RA with no skin plaques until I started Humira.   Humira prompted the skin plaques and made PsA flare.  I'm in clinical remission for RA but not PsA.  Good luck and keep us posted.  Lindy
You could have chondritis if it is between the breast bone and the rib bone..  or Pluersy... or muscle spasm,....  Heart attacks in men are usually crushing feeling.. sharp pain could be cardiovascular blockage.. However, if the pain isn't too bad but bothersome, most likely it is the first three I mentioned... You should see your doc no matter what.,.
