RA or something else? | Arthritis Information

I get these severe crick like pains in my neck that go way down into my shoulders. It feels like my head has been shoved down between my shoulders. I get them as often as once a week, sometimes more. It hurts extremely bad to turn my head in different directions. Just like if I had slept on it wrong. Sometimes, it's worse on one side and other times it's the opposite side. I have tried pain meds, doesn't really help. I usually have to take 2 anti-inflammatories and a Flexerial to get it to calm down.

Does anyone else experience this with their RA? I guess when I hurt in my muscles, I tend to think it's something else other than RA, since RA is a joint disease.

Hi Blessed, do you have Fibro too? I have those cricks a lot but i think it has something to do with my top three vertabraes. They are always sore and often feel like they're on fire. I think it is inflamation around a nerve because of the shooting burning pain I get. Maybe its neuropathy like some of the others here talk about. Sure do hope you find out and get some relief for it soon dear.

Hi -

I get the same "crick in the neck" same place - I keep thinking I've slept on it wrong - but same place each time??  Can't turn my neck until it subsides.  I just assumed it was RA related.  Last night I had it, happened to be RA 3 mo checkup time and doc did take an x-ray, but joint showed to be ok and she thought perhaps muscle related.

Any more - I just don't know what drives what...  :

I experience neck pain too and lately it's gotten much worse.  Like blessed described, it feels like my head has been shoved down inbetween my shoulders.  It also feels SO incredibly heavy and tense.  It cracks when I move it around too.  I asked my RD if it could be RA and she said it could be but then babbled something else off she thought it could be which I didn't catch and forgot to go back to.  I'll ask at my appoinment in a couple of weeks and see if I can get more info.

Peace & Love...Neasy

Interesting.  I got this shooting pain from my head down the neck and both arms.  It felt like slow motion and my arms tingled.  I had a hard time breathing, and both arms were almost paralyzed.  It lasted a good 2 minutes, then I felt extremely weak.  I told my doctor about it and she thought it was just a pinched nerve.  I had this happen one time before.  It's a very hot sharp pain.  I haven't had it again since 2 weeks ago.  It may be related to the Fibro.
Not sure what to tell you, but I know it's scary.
Thanks guys!

It is so frustrating not knowing what is causing it? My next RD appt is Aug 10, I'll post what the Doc says...
