Doc Who Had Sex in Waiting Room Punished

Saturday, July 30, 2005

ALBANY, N.Y. - The license of a Clifton Park obstetrician/gynecologist who had sex in a hospital waiting room and who induced another woman's labor early so he wouldn't have to change his vacation plans has been revoked by state health officials.

The Board for Professional Medical Conduct this week found Dr. Akiva Abraham morally unfit to practice medicine. Among the evidence considered was testimony by a psychiatrist who called Abraham "the most amoral person she had evaluated who was not behind bars."

Abraham, 40, had a five-month sexual relationship in 2002 with a troubled 25-year-old woman he was treating, including encounters with her in his office and in a waiting room at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany for doctors on call, according to health officials.

He was also accused of forcing the woman to have sex with him against her wishes.

The state also ruled that Abraham, who worked at several Albany area hospitals, had practiced medicine negligently, filed false reports and failed to maintain accurate records.

Abraham's attorney, James Hacker, disputed the state's findings, saying many "of the allegations in the decision and in the charges are salacious and unfounded."

Hacker denied that his client forced the 25-year-old woman to have sex against her will. He also disputed a charge that Abraham inappropriately induced the delivery of a baby by a 30-year-old woman at St. Peter's in October 2002.

Abraham is appealing the board's decision, the attorney said.

St. Peter's officials said that Abraham is no longer an active member of its medical staff.

Makes you wonder about going back yo a gyno huh?

Man I want a woman Gyne from now on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanx for sharing. NOW THATS CREEEPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would rather not go to the gyno at all...lol. But I was like that before I read this article. Speaking of Gynes I need to be making an appointment to see one since its been 2 yrs. But your story is kinda changing my mind now. I dont know if i wanna go now.

I would still make an appointment. They have to have a nurse in there with them.

I am going to make an appointment when I get the chance I need a check up.

and I hope you do the same.

Ok Ok Ill make the appointment. But I wont be happy about it.

Ladies; a yearly pap smear is very important. (Here I go with the unsolicited advice) I always went because I was on birth control pills for 9 years. I had to have my exam to get my precription refilled every year. The year after I stopped taking the pill, I still kept up the habit. I had an abnormal pap smear. I could make this a long, long story but I'll just say that I had one biopsy to check that out...a second; more deep biopsy to check that out...and they had to remove cancerous cells from my cervic. What I had would have easily turned into cervical cancer had it not been removed early. POINT IS: a yearly pap smear will catch serious problems early enough to get ride of it quick.

I now have to go every 6 months until I've had 4 clear ones. My last one was clear!! (Thank goodness) And I'm due to go now...so I'll get off my soap box here.

Let's make an appointment. Anyone that hasn't been in a year...join me in this. I know how important it is....and I know other's of you here do as well.

I love you guys.

Lovie
