Prednisone Slump | Arthritis Information

Hi all, I've been feeling 'really great' , for the past 2 weeks, then started the tapering, from 15 to 10, now going to 5mgs. The fatigue is starting...isn't this the way it is! Lynda

Yep....the ole miracle monster Mr. Prednisone!  I'm sorry you're not feeling very well...good luck with the tapering.

Peace & Love...Neasy

you can always slow down the taper.  try alternating the 15 and 10 mg doses for a week.  or split the pills so you are taking 12.5 for a while.  15 down to 10 is a huge drop and may be too much for the body to adjust to quicklyI remember when I was first diagnosed with RA.  My RD gave me a fairly high dose of prednisone for the first month and I felt GREAT.  I remember telling my husband, "RA? What RA, I feel Great!" Then I started to taper and BAM it hit me again.

Well, it was fun while it lasted.

C'mon Lynda - you're a tiger for punishment.    Remember last time and sloooooooww it down, 5 mg is a huge jump at once. Listen to your mothers now!!!!   I know you want to get off it again, but easy does it - very easy does it!  Think about the Hare & The Tortoise.

I don't see how you guys take prednisone and manage to stay so chipper! The general public doesn't approve of me ripping arms off of complete strangers and proceeding to beat them with them, so I had to pass on the drug. I was a straight up monster! Haha!

My doctor tried lowering the dosage, but even the 5mg dosage still caused me to become insta-b!tch. I would get mad at the stupidest little things and get even madder still because I KNEW I was getting mad at stupid things.

Talk about your roid rage! Geez!

I really hope you are able to find a way to taper down the dosage while still maintaining the benefit of pain free days. Good luck!

HI, I remember the taper problem, but I was off of it for 2 weeks, and thought okay, 15-10-5 I'll do what the doc 's office suggested. WRONG, we know we need to do the more gentle taper.....I'm a slow learner. I was down to 5, but went up 2-1/2 today, and felt better. Slower, sloooowwwwrrrrr. Thanks everyone for reminding me! Lynda

(Oh MrsA, I fortunately didn't 'get agressive, in fact, i felt like I'd had 10 cups of coffee, and 2 boxes of chocolates on 15. I felt really energetic, and better than I'd felt in months. I know all the nasty parts about pred, so was heading OFF of it. I do wish the other stuff I"m taking would work!)

Good girl Lynda!!! "Gentle Taper" is my new mantra and you need to make it yours, Lynda.  Haven't heard from my RD yet, but I may be joining you on the Pred. teeter totter.  Maybe we should start a Pred. taper party group?  We can start a taper thread and post each day.
