RA & High Cholesterol | Arthritis Information

Hi

I was flicking through the various websites as you do and read an article that said having high cholesterol can hide the inflamation markers when blood tests are done. Needless to say I didnt  bookmark this page.... does anyone have any info about this?

I have heard that some of the biologicals can raise your cholesterol.  Mine used to run in the low 200's and my most recent test showed my level at 301 but the doctors don't seem to think much of it.  I am not on any meds for it yet but have been on Humira since last August and did enbrel for 3 months before that.  I am interested to see what others have to say.  I am also going to the University of Michigan tomorrow and plan on asking about this as well, will let you know if I find anything out. It is very important to strive towards getting the cholesterol into a normal
range as this can create widespread inflammation in our bodies. We have
enough inflammation from the RA issues. We don't need any more. When
looking at CRP and ESR, it is hard to tell what is RA and what is other forms
of inflammation caused by diet, genetics, etc. The statins are showing
promise in decreasing inflammation and many studies are underway but
they have not yet been approved to treat inflammation yet.

Oh man I just stopped taking my Crestor last week, was in such a fibro and sciatica flare for 2  weeks I was thinking the Crestor had something to do with it so I quit taking it. I do feel better but don't know if the meds for the flare helped or not taking the Crestor

Welcome to the board Wills, somebody here will now something about anything you have a question about

Hi all, I've been putting off having the cholesterol test as I've heard that Prednisone can raise the bad readings, my other heart doctor (I dumped her!!), was seriously considering putting me on a cholesterol lowering drug! , (ugh, another pill and I was against it!), i've been waiting to get off of the Pred before I have the test. Hi guys

I have a liver that chucks out bad cholesterol like no-body's business. Because I walk to keep fit, eat very healthily (I had to keep a food diary for a month to prove it), dont smoke, drink a little and have low blood pressure I passed the new fangled test where they put all the info (and some) into a computer and it tells you what your percentage of having a heart attack in the next 10 years is. They did my test twice because it came out as .68%. Here (sunny edinburgh), if you have high bad cholesterol they dont insist yo go on statins until your percentage is 15%. Thats comforting, no heart attack for me in the near future.

Do you think then that my RA presentation could be because of my high cholesterol combined with urticaria and underactive thyroid, the latter two being autoimmune challenges?

Any views welcome.

moana, i had the same problem on crestor i took it for two weeks and was in so much muscle pain. as if joint pain isnt enough. i changed to lipitor and havent had any problems
