How sick do you get | Arthritis Information

the day after taking your enbrel and mtx. At first I really wasnt getting sick from it. Now it makes me feel nauseaus ( spell) the day after I take the meds. Also, feel like I have the flu or something. Need to rest most of the day. Is this normal? Will it always be this way?
How do you feel the day after?
At first I felt a bit nauseated for a day or two. Now I am a bit tired the day after, but that is about it. Everyone reacts differently.Do you take your MTX by injection or pill?  By pill. i understand the injection dosent bother the stomach as much.
Is that correct? Is is more expensive?
I take inj mtx. It doesn't cause me any tummy trouble. I'm not sure if it's more expensive, I have good insurance and only pay a co-pay.I take inj MTX as well. I still feel a little queasy, but any meds tend to hit me in the gut for some reason. I'm not sure of the cost either as our insurance covers the drug 100% after the copay.I have been taking MTX for a year now and I dont understand why it started to bother me now. Does this happen all of a sudden? I've had MTX orally and injected.  I currently take it orally.  It's russian roulette with me if I am going to get sick or not.  Weeks can go by and I'll feel fine after I take it.  Other times, I get super nauseous and tired the next day.  I find drinking plenty of water while before during and after, helps reduce the likeliness of getting sick.

I took oral MTX  25mg per week for 2 years on the study and unfortunately I never did do well.  It made me incredibly sick for 2-3 days with vomiting, diarrhea and lethargy.  Once the study ended I declined continuing it.  I've since changed RD's and she insists that I try it again starting at 15mg per week along with Folic Acid and 100mg of Leucovorin Calcium.  I haven't filled the script yet and am not looking forward to it but I'll give it another try and will let you know how it goes.  My RD did say that if I can't tolerate the oral MTX we can try the injections but she feels that it's important for me to get back on it.

On a better note, some people do really well with no side effects and with some, the side effects do go away in time.

i took the oral methotrexate and also folic acid but it never agreed with me. i hated it . i would take it sat night sunday i couldnt get out of bed the nausea and pain was intense. plus i would pretty much sleep on and off all day. monday i still felt hungover. tues not so bad wed bit better thurs and friday pain would be getting worse then sat start all over again. i found the two days where i was ok was not enough for me to want to keep taking it but i perservered until it showed liver problems. now i take arava and life has been much better although never a day without pain.

i feel the flu symptoms for a couple days after my mtx injection. some weeks worse than others. I agree need to drink plenty of water.

I have absolutely no problem with injectable Methotrexate, but with the tablet form I was always nauseated.Hi all, wow ,sorry to hear other people suffer after mtx. I've been taking it for years and have had no problems. I do feel a little tired after taking it but not too bad. I have also had no prob. with Remicade. I just wish they would work better so I can kick the Prednisone. Lynda
