Getting our calcium/chewables | Arthritis Information

Hi all, I've been complaining about my ears ringing to my doc, and he suggested taking 3 chewable calcium 500, a day. They taste like candy! Now,that's a plus. My ears are still ringing, but not as loudly. Anyone have more info on taking calcium? I'm not taking fosomax, actonel, or any of those bone protecting things right now. I just need the meds to work!! Stop the stiffness. Lynda

Ringing in your ears must drive you crazy, I'm glad you got some relief.  I didn't know that calcium could do that.  Interesting.  Now if only the rest of your meds would kick in, huh? They will soon though, so keep hanging in there, Lynda ol' girl. (ol' , not old

Lynda - Have you tried a B-complex vitamin for the ear ringing? Although it hasn't helped me, my ENT told me to try it when I saw her the first time for my ear ringing problem. It might be worth a try.

Have you ever been able to figure out if your tinnitus is caused from the Methotrexate or from the Remicade? Remicade was definitely the cause of mine, and it's starting to lessen as I've been off Remicade for a couple of months.

As far as calcium, I take the Viactive chocolate chews and they're yummy!

About a year before I got RA my legs really hurt all the time, and ibuprofen
and painkillers wouldn't do anything for it. My doctor couldn't find anything
wrong, but my chiroptactor suggested I buy a pack of tums with calcium and
magneseum, chew one or two every day until the pack was gone, and if my
legs felt better I would know I had a calcium/magneseum deficiency. So I
tried it and it worked. It was the .09 diagnosis!

You shouldn't take calcium within two hours of any medications because the
meds will bind ot the calcium, rendering them less effective.Hi, does b vitimin, come in pill form?? I jsut don't know if I can take another pill!! Just kidding. I'll try it. My doctor suggested the calcium and my other GP, doctor suggested I have my ears looked at by a specialist? Hummm. I have 5 doctors lined up next couple of weeks and a trip to Nevada. Lyndaare you taking asprin? That causes ringing in ear. Joanne

Gimpy,

Thanks so much for the warning about calcium and meds.  I had no idea it was necessary to space calcium apart from the other pills.  Maybe that explains my less than wonderful relief after three months.  Geeze!! Isn't that something the doctors should tell us, especially when the patient is a woman and has listed calcium on her current meds sheet?  I want to scream!

It just shows me how much we need each other here and how valuable this site is.

It's funny that you're all saying these things because after I had my daughter I had such bad back pain that I couldn't even stand to do a dish at the sink.  Never mind not being able to sleep on this side or that.  My Rhematologist told me to take calcium and vitamin d.  I noticed the pain went away but I didn't associate that with taking calcium.  Hmmm!  Now, hearing your stories, I'm wondering again.
