Way OT--Colonostopy??? | Arthritis Information

Hi all, my husband is having a colonostopy tomorrow morning. He's been worrying about it for a week or more. Pre-appointment last week, tomorrow, Thursday at 9 am, I drive him in for the 'exam' ,as he will have a 'general' anesthetic.

Drinking liquids only since Tuesday night, no food except hard candy (?), juices today. The laxative an hour ago, another at 5 am, to empty the bowel. This is unreal! Anyone gone through this? Lynda

I had it done last year, it is really an easy procedure and I never felt a thing. Tell hubby not to worry...Hi, thanks. I was thinking about the leading up to it? He thinks he'll be awake all night? Lynda

I had it in Feb. The anticipation is worse than the procedure.  He may not sleep just because of worrying about it.

But there is really nothing to worry about. He won't know anything til it's over, probably. Is this just a routine colonoscopy?

If he's done the prep, the worst is over with.

Tell him to try to relax. Hope everything turns out alright.

My hubby had this done and like someone said above.....the time leading up was the worse. He came out and was starving. We went to a buffet and I have never seen him eat so much. LOLHi, he's doing the prep, it is 2 am and we can't sleep. I can't believe the whole world does this! according to our doc, everyone needs it. LyndaI had one a couple of years ago Lynda.  I too found the laxative part the worst, that was just sooo weird!!    So after the bowel is emptied. as the others say the worst is over.

No unpleasant after affects, - after the actual scope, and you can both look forward to a good lunch!!

I didn't have general anaesthetic, only a sedative, so the procedure was was not comfortable.  I'm pleased your hubby is having a general anaesthetic. If I am given a choice for another time, , I will opt for general.  Dunno why, but I wasn't offered the option.  In fact, I don't even know why it was ordered.  My Rh ordered it, I hadn't been having any bowel probs, when I asked him why, he said "just checking things out".

I can only say that he and and I have both learned since then that I needed to be more specific with my questions, and he needed to be more specific with his answers.  Tell your hubby good luck from all us here, I know that will make him feel better Let us know when he gets the results I'm sure everything will be fine(hope so) Yea, I had this done four years ago. The prep is the worst thing ever. The actual procedure was nothing. I have to do it again next year. My Mom died of colon cancer and if you have that in your family they need to keep an eye on it. As awful as it is,it is so worth it when you get the good news.
Good luck .

piece of cake.

Gotta loooove the versed. I had   both a colonoscopy and endoscopy done about 5 years ago. I cracked up when the nurse said "we promise we will use different tubes in each end"

They gave me versed and the next thing I knew I was on the front steps of the hospital blinking in the sun.

Hi there, just wanted to see how everything went? I hope you all have full bellies and are taking a nap now!

I had one done in January and was so worried about the procedure for nothing! Good for him for getting it done. :)

The prep is the worst part.  I didn't remember any of the procedure and there was no pain afterwards.   Like your husband I worried myself silly but it's one of the best medical diagnostic tools.  If you're over 50 years old and haven't had one, please talk with your doctor.  If your doctor has suggested that you have one, please do so.  It truly is a life saver.
