I am new to this forum, as you can probably tell. I have osteoarthritis, and just had a total right hip replacement. So far so good. I am out 6 weeks now, and can walk using a cane, and also without a cane, putting 100% weight bearing on my new hip/leg.
I had compications in the hospital with pneumonia and bowel obstruction due to the pain meds. I was a screaming meamie for 3 or 4 days due to pain med interactions, that I was apparently allergic to. I do not remember all of the things I said and did during that time, but I do remember I was totally out of control, screaming obcenities at helpless and innocent nurses. I have never been like that in 'real life'. I was in the hospital a total of 31 days. Had I not had the complications I would have been well to leave after only 4 days.
I am wondering if anyone else has had such an experience?
Hey GingerAnne,
I had my right hip replaced 4 weeks ago. I was very fortunate and did not have complications like you did and was released from the hospital after four days. I took my first walk without a cane today!
Just wanted to say good luck with your recovery
I have a hip replacement in my future, but I'm going to hold out as long as I can. How long did you wait? Did you finally just get to a point where you said I can't do this anymore?
Hi GingerAnne, welcome to the forum. I had a total knee replacement 5 weeks ago with no complications except the bottom dropped out of my potassium. It was a critical drop and it took 2 extra days for me to recover from the low potassium. I was to be discharged after 3 days but ended up staying for 6 days.
You my dear, had quite a scare and lengthy hospital stay. I hope that your fully recovered now from the complications. Sounds like you're doing great walking. Take care. Lindy
