I am more than a little offended that people take money for what to some of us is just another day.

Jay

Jay,

While I agree it's offensive, what I'm trying to do here is show a pattern.  Which won't really be evident until more of these are posted.  :-)

We have to research on our own.

All is not perfect in Big Pharma land.

We are being manipulated.

I agree fully. I am looking forward to see what others feel.

Jay

Same old crappy story......It's all about money!$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
I wonder how much money that is donated for research actually goes for that.  What percentage would you say?  Too many CEO'S with their huge salaries, etc.  Disgusting isn't it?
If these celebrities are making up stories then yeah, I think it sucks.  But if what they are saying is what really happened to them and what really helped them, then I don't care if they make money telling about it.  Why should I?  I think it's crappy to make negative assumptions about people you don't even know.  I don't think that rich=evil, and no, I'm not rich.  I just don't hate you if you are.

I don't care.  I think most people gather information from the internet, physicians, pharma co., friends, neighbors, family and not Ms. Turner.  If Ms. Turner is using a drug that helps her and I haven't heard of it, then I'm going to research it further and talk to my physician about it.  I think this is the route that people will use.

Life is too full of joy for me to care one way or the other about who gets paid for what.  Too much energy is expended on the  negative and not the positive.  Lindy

Lindy -

Bear with me sweetie, I'm trying to make this a positive learning/educational experience for us.

Do you know they are teaching kids in HS and college how to recognize advertising now?  How to prepare and defend against it?  Most of us are a long time out of school (sigh).

We need to know what the kids know.

Pip

Believe me I haven't been out of school that long and I know exactly what's going on. Learning has always been part of my life.  I continue to learn and go to school when I feel that I'm able to commit to a course of study.  Marketing and advertising was part of the programs that I developed for the insurance industry.  I know very well how marketing works and why it works and that's the reason why I don't really buy into any of it.  I don't like being manipulated by any entity.

I don't feel that my fellow humans are as gullible as we are lead to believe.  Maybe I'm just too positive about the whole situation.  Everything that's been stated is true about advertising and marketing, I won't argue with that.  I just want to show that not everyone buys into it.  It's not the gospel; there are free thinkers on these forums who don't or won't be lead down ANY rose strewn path.

This has been debated for years and isn't anything new.  There's really no new insight or perspectives on the pharama co and marketing/advertising.   It's just been rehashed and comes out in a new form. Once again, I don't want to debate this, just state my opinion based on life experience.

I don't think rich=evil.  I just feel that someone shouldn't be paid to spread awareness of a very serious and very heartbreaking illness no matter what the illness is.  It should come from the heart and not the pocketbook.

I have known and still know some very well to do people.  I do not equate their money with anything evil.  I don't think that people are evil that get paid for being a spokesperson for something.  I just think they have their priorities a little mixed up.

I feel that the priorities of the drug companies are a little mixed up too.

What I feel we should be focused on is solving the issue at hand.

Amen!

That's part of what I'm trying to show with all this.

Pip

I really don't care if these stars are paid for their marketing power or not. In many cases (especially older adults) the TV is how they get their information. So at least the information is getting to them. As far as moral judgement,I am not the jury. Kathleen Turner and whoever else will have to answer to their maker and He will decide their fate.

One humorous note, the web site noted in the story, www.ra-access.com does not even work

I thought that was what would happen to me too.

I wish Kathleen Turner had been my RA image instead of my dad's Auntie.
