I was wondering what to do if I get sick too.  My RD said if I get a cough I should call so I can start on antibiotics.  If I were you, I'd hold off till tomorrow and call your RD and see what he says.

I have only been on MTX about 1.5 yrs but have not missed a (oral) dose. Everyone knows their own body best so trust your instints.

My Rhuemy told me not to take the MTX if I was ill.  I would call the on-call physician to be sure.  I know it supresses the immune system, so if you are already ill - it might make it more difficult to heal.  I hope you feel better very very soon.

I have never missed my mtx ever, for any reason.

You definitely should get the sinus infection treated as quickly as possible. I get them a lot too and am to the place now where I have a made up prescription of antibiotics at home and if I get the slight sign I my sinus being infected, I call my doctor and start taking them. Otherwise you can end up being sick for weeks, your immune system being suppressed and all.

Call your rheumy about the mtx, it is always worth asking what to do in those scenarios.  For me, I've never had a problem with taking my mtx while having a cold.  I've been taking mtx for 15 years and have never missed it due to a cold.  But, if you're worried, it doesn't hurt to call and see what your doctor suggests for you.

my doctor isnt in on sundays. i think i should just wait till tomorow and call her. whats one day late taking my mtx? I LOVE THIS BOARD! where else can people understand our goofy and not so goofy questions???

Kel,

Good idea. Sorry, being in Aust, I forget you guys are behind. It is Monday morning at 10.15am here.

One day late won't matter at all. Wait and call tomorrow.

And do get that sinus infection treated too as they can trigger flares in my experience and you don't want that.
Hi, I thought that was the point. We can't get rid of infections because of our lowered resistance. I'm real interested in what your doctor says. (I had bronchitas/turned into pneumonia...I was resistant to the anti biotics prescribed and ended up in the hospital for 7 days!) Mtx will continue to lower your ability to fight infection? , right? LyndaOn Friday, my sinuses was giving me problems, on Saturday, I took my mtx, Sunday I started to feel bad, this morning I am at work and all I can do is bury my face in my hands I am so sick, my sinuses are no better, could it be from the mtx on Saturday. no energy to do anything.

Mae Mae, wonder if you are coming down with a sinus infection? I alwys flare bad when i have a cold,or infection. Let me know how your feeling.

So what did the doc tell you to do?

My doc told me to keep taking the immunosuppressants when I was sick. She said it takes so long for them to build up in our system that skipping a dose when you have a cold won't impact your immune system immediately anyway.

Hmmm, I wonder how long you have to stop taking MTX before it leaves your system.  Anybody know?

I thought I had heard or read 4-6 months to completely be gone. One of our Veterans can probably give us a more fact based idea.

i placed a call into my rheumy this morning to see if i should take my mtx. its 6:30pm and no return call. so i guess i will wait to take it next sundy which is my scheduled time to take it.

Hi, please consider calling them in the morning and asking 'did you get my message'? Please don't let them not answer you! Lynda
