Why do guys not like going to weddings?

Hmmmm.  I don't know because my guy has never hesitated to go to a wedding with me.  Maybe some guys feel uncomfortable because 1) they have to dress up, 2) they have to talk to strangers, 3) hate to see someone take that step (of marriage), ...

:)

Agree with Molly Bee on all three counts.  :)Ok... for hubby it would be it is in a church. He has something against churches and religion. But he is all about the FREE cake and food. Mostly the FREE cake.

Loved that last line, Jay!  How true!

Thanks for replying, Jay.

There is no alcohol at this wedding, but the bride & groom are both BIG drinkers, they are not having alcohol out of respect for the in-laws.

For me, the not liking to dress up and mingling with strange people are probably the only drawbacks.

I have a couple of really nice suits, just don't like wearing them.  Everybody always says, "oh, you look so nice." Mostly because no one is used to seeing me in something other than shorts and t-shirts.  And the shoes!  My feet are used to tennis shoes or nothing at all.  My feet do not conform to dress shoes and they hurt, hurt, hurt.   And it's a cinch that I'll be standing in line for something at some point.  Usually a lot.  Usually the cake line.

As for as meeting strangers, I've never been the person who usually starts the conversation but I'm getting better at it.  We get invited to these big "open house" get-togethers for these very wealthy people sometimes due to my wifes work. (She works for an interior designer)  Most of these people are very friendly and always seem to want to work anyone into the conversation no matter who you are or your background.  I've found that people are just people whether they are heads of corporations or disabled and jobless.  Yeah, the social part is getting better for me.

Maybe giving you excuses about why he doesnt want to go is his way of being nice. Maybe he just really doesnt want to go and thats that?

I'm surprised no one mentioned this, but I know some guys don't like to go to wedding receptions because they might have to dance!

As for the ceremony part, I think some people (both men and women) just find it boring.  I love weddings, both ceremonies and receptions, as long as the ceremony isn't overly long.

I don't know why but I had forgotten about the dancing thing.

My wife loves to and I am willing to give her a few slow dances and thats about it. "That is not what she wants!"  Sorry honey

But hubby said... if I do not go, he is not going. And I am guessing his excuse for not going if I do not go is "I had to take care of her." He has not really ever had to take care of me when I was "sick". Now if it was because I could not move around, well of course he has helped me, but I can get around just fine without him for up to 8 hours

Anyways... looks like we both are going. I am going to try to be the first in line for cake. Oh and the nuts! I need me some nuts, all nice a salty!!! YUM!! Salty nuts and cake mixed together is the BEST taste EVER!!!

Ha I just asked Danny about the weddings thing and he said because I can't wear jeans...and you would make me dance at the reception.  LOL.

He is still bitter about his company Christmas party 2 years ago where he had to wear a suit and the band for the night was Styx lol.  He still to this day says...I can't believe I saw them in such a personal setting and I had to wear a freaking SUIT!!!

Nuts at a reception? are you talking about the ones dancing? I've never seen the other kind...nor lining up for cake. I live just far enough away from family to send my "regrets" because of hubby's work and kid's school schedules. Now if it were a sibling, wild horses couldn't keep me away.

Yeah mixed nuts that come out of a jar-o-nuts. Oh hubbies family are all cake eaters, and I am thinking SIL hubby's family will all have the munchies

Oh yeah... talking about cake... I do not understand how the hell cake & ice cream go together? We have cake & ice cream for every birthday celebration and I just do not understand why the ice cream?
