anyone been to the mayo clinic? | Arthritis Information

 

I'm wondering if any of you have been to the Mayo clinic, or anything like it. The Jacksonville, Florida Mayo clinic is a few hours from my home and I'm waiting on a scheduler to call me back. I like that I'll be able to see a number of different doctors in one or two days. I have a number of autoimmune issues and would like to get a second opinion on treatment options. I have heard that the mayo clinics are about the best in almost everything.  I just went to the University of Michigan and thought it was going to be set up like a mayo clinic, where you see multiple docs and they keep you until they figure something out but I was wrong, very wrong.  The U of M was a complete waste of time for me but am still considering one of the mayo clinics but they are so far so it means time off work, hotels, meals out, plane tickets.  If I lived close enough to drive, I would definitely go! I have a grandson that went to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.  We were told that he had inoperable cancer by our docs, but we wanted a second opinion or opinions.  We were very impressed with the whole operation of the place, but sadly they only confirmed the original diagnosis.  At this point he is on chemo and doing much better than we anticipated and even working 35 hours a week.  His chemo is costing ,000 a month and his insurance where he works pays most of it.  His working was an issue with us, but he feels so much better when he is busy, so how can we argue with that. I kind of got carried away here, but the Clinic in Minn is great. I did have foot surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona.  It was a very positive experience.  I know many people who have not had good luck with foot surgery and I attribute my success to the surgeon that I worked with.  I spent time in both the clinic and the hospital and in both places felt I was treated extremely well.  I am due to have hip surgery and hope that I am able to use a Mayo doctor.  I have confidence in their skills and I enjoy the way I am treated.
