Platelets Question | Arthritis Information

I got woke up by the phone around 9am, it was a nurse from my GP's office, she said something like ... the dr wants you to come in and go get more bloodwork done. Some of your blood work came back normal, except your platelets were high.

What does high platelets mean? Is it bad?

joonie - a high platelet count, also known as thrombocytosis, can indicate a number of things. But in your case, it is probably from chronic inflammation. Nothing to panic over, just get the blood work done and have your doctor go over the results with you.  :)But I have been having some weird symptoms. Like I get really light headed. I have been feeling really really drained since my last bladder infection a few months back. I just do not feel well, and it is not the normal not feel well with RA.

Since you're having symptoms, I'd get in to have the blood work done as soon as possible. Thrombocytosis can occur after an infection, and weakness and dizziness can also present as symptoms.

Again, try not to worry, as more than likely, it is related to your chronic inflammation. Most people with thrombocytosis (dependent on how high the platelet count is) do not have any complications. Blood clots and uncontrolled bleeding are the main risks of a chronic elevated platelet count, so do get in as soon as possible to have it checked out.  :)

Joonie, do what Brisen told you and get to the Dr ASAP. It's probably something minor but we don't want you bleeding all over the board

I am going to go tomorrow or Friday. Probably Friday, as SIL wedding rehersal is tomorrow and I do not even know what time. And Friday is a free day that MIL can take me to run in and get my poor 'ittle blood vein bruised again. And the bruise has just gone away a couple of days ago.
