This afternoon I had a nap. It is winter here but with all the inflammation in my body, this is how I went to bed...electric blanket on, me in warm clothes, blanket on top and the fan on me!!!
I knew if I didn't add the fan on, I would wake up drenched in sweat but I was also cold.
Add to this a sinus infection, that I have had lately and it just gets worse.
Sometimes I am just cold or just hot but I do experience the hot/cold all at the same time often and I think it is definitely RA related.
Does anyone else experience being hot and cold all at the same time a lot?
Yes, yes, yes Cordelia. Definitely!! A lot. As your near neighbour, we too have winter on us, and it's really weird to feel both hot and cold at the same time. I am well past menopause, so know it's not that, although the feeling is similar.
I'm cold when I get into bed, but I'm like you, electric blanket, I also have a sheepskin magnetic underlay, warm jamas - over a cotton summer nightie. Love my bed warm, but the room cool.
When I finally lay down to go to sleep, I ditch the pj's, and am just in my summer short sleeved nightie. This has helped and stopped me from breaking out in sweats. This hot/cold at the same time is really weird, my heat is mostly up around my chest and head, but my feet and hands can be cold. Crazy!!
It's definitely worse at night. I only have 1 blanket on top, and still get hot. It'll be interesting to read what others experiences are with this hot/cold issue.

I know mine isn't menopause because this has been around for 10 years since my RA got triggered and I was only 29 then.
For me it is around the neck, head and chest I sweat and yes, my feet and hands can be cold at the same time. I can also be very, very hot and very, very cold, individually but this hot/cold thing at the same time is the weirdest feeling.
I will be interested to know if others experience it too.
I actually wonder if it's the drugs. Looking at your signature, I see you are on Methotrexate. I am too, along with Prednisone & Plaquenil.
I also get a very dripping wet head and face when I am doing the dreaded vacuuming, or am in what I now consider an overheated environment. That includes summer! I used to love the heat.
Yeah, I melt too, in similar situations.
I thought of the drugs too...I am only on Humira and MTX now but I do remember this going on for the last ten years and I have only been on drugs for the last two and MTX for the last one so that's what had me thinking it had to be disease based.
Of course, knowing RA...it could be the disease and the drugs
I get that too, it is summer here and I can get freezing cold even though the temp says its 85 degrees in my house! It is a very strange feelingAt least I'm not alone with this obscure hot/cold feeling. I didn't start with the hot/cold until after I started MXT. It almost always happens the next day after my MXT inj. Usually only lasts off and on during that day. I've been known to put on a nightgown, pull up the sheet and quilt and still be cold and I'm in Yuma, AZ where the temp, has been hovering in the 110 -115 degree range. How can you be cold? Lindyim on prednisone and go through that daily, drives my husband nuts lol. Since i can't walk well i tell him all day "turn up the ac" "turn down the ac" lol If he could, he would put that thermostat on this side of the house lol

I'm not on MTX anymore and it still happens. Sometimes it can be really embarrasing when suddenly sweat is running down your face and your shivering at the same time. I have started bringing a small washcloth with me everytime I leave the house so I can use it to mop my face and neck.
Oh, I bought a portable airconditioner for my room so I can stand in front of it while i blow dry my hair. Even then, I can't ever really get it dry cause I'm sweating from the dryer heat.

One time at Mass, the A/C was on high, people were shivering, my hands and feet were freezing, BUT my hair became drenched with sweat, face beet red, perspiring like crazy.
Couldn't take it any more! Ran(yeah, right!
I'm hot...then cold...then hot...then cold...then driving hubby nuts lol. I think it is the mtx but not sure.
Yep! I get the same thing. I can sweep the kitchen floor and feel like I am not all that hot, but have sweat dripping down my face like I've ran five miles. (I only run in my dreams!)

I can be comfortably warm but my toes will be almost numb with cold. Of course at night the electric blanket is on 3 for the first couple of hours I'm in bed then I turn it down. As soon as hubby gets up in the morning the blanket goes back on or my feet get so cold within about 20 minutes that they ache. I'm OK as long as I'm not alone in the bed.
