Stooopid question about eyes | Arthritis Information

Before I go off to pilates to strengthen my inner core muscles... I swear I've got a six pack under the flesh and dont get me started on what I can do with my pelvic floor muscles

Anyway serious question, as some of you may know I'm having a flare at the mo and my eyes feel swollen (I mean the actual eye not the bags under it!) They arent bulging but they ache as if I've been reading too much in a dim light. All they want to do is shut. I also feel like I've got a milky haze every now and then in the left eye (this ones got an astigmatism), I've not long had new glasses (prescription isnt strong, mainly for long distance).

Is this part and parcel of feeling so tired and rundown?

Wills, I have the same problem at the very moment with my left eye, which is associated with my whole left-sided neuropathy problem, which is somehow associated with this whole autoimmune/vasculitis thing (how's that for a run-on sentence!). The feeling comes and goes but it's not the ache you feel but just that swollen feeling, and sometimes the eye tears and feels blurry. I'm worried that my left eye lid is going to start drooping, and won't that look lovely!  Can anyone shed any light on this for us?  I'm still new at this and don't have much info on all the crazy different issues that come up. AI problems are known to also cause dry eyes. Dry eyes can make your eyes hurt, tear more and not focus properly.  I would start with an otc lubricating drop, my favorite is systane.

It is possible to have inflammation in your eyes, this can be called episcleritis or uveitis or other itis things, depending on which layer of your eye it affects.  These things typically cause redness and a LOT of pain and are usually treated with steroid eye drops.

Seeing flashes of light, a LOT of floaters, such as if someone threw a handful of dirt in your eyes or losing part of your vision, like having a veil come over part of your sight generally points to retina issues and need to be seen NOW.

AI people need to have yearly eye exams by an ophthalmologist to be sure our disease is not hurting our eyes.  Long term use of steroids can cause eye pressure to go up and premature cataracts so that also needs to monitor.

My eyes often hurt and feel tired all the time no matter how much sleep I get!
