Danielle’s rheumy appt & other stuff | Arthritis Information

Danielle has been put on plaquenil and is going to wean off the pred since it really isn't good for the kids to be on it for a long period of time.  He wants an MRI of her wrist before deciding for sure on mtx and the dosage.  It tends to mess with their cycles when they are the age that Danielle is and we really want to try and avoid that.  Kid is already doomed with that and family history of female issues.  Sorry about that guys but had to put that in there lol.  He gave her a nicer and more comfortable brace for her wrist and she loves it.  She said too bad it doesn't come in purple lol.  I have Sharpie nightmares running thru my mind right now lol.  The MRI thing should be interesting since he wants it done with contrast and this involves a needle.  I have not told her that and not going to until I have her appt set and I can start prepping her for it.  Sigh.  Another fight on my hands lol.  This time I'm just gonna sit on the child lol.  He did confirm that she is seronegative.  Her ANA was slighty elevated.

So the other stuff.  Danny piped up that I have not been doing too well lately and the doc took a look at me and asked are you taking your meds?  Well der of course I am lol.  Then he asked if I notice a big difference when it is a couple of days before shot day.  I said yeah I am really run down and swollen etc.  I am pretty swollen right now (yay4me! lol) and feeling pretty cruddy lately.  He said that he wants to see me before my September appt.  I also got 2 braces since my hands have been falling asleep a whole lot lately.  It wakes me in the middle of the night.  It also happens during the day.  So now Danielle and I have matching braces.  WonderTwin Braces ACTIVATE!!  He feels that Humira is no longer doing the trick for me and wants to switch me to remicade.  This is just gonna be one big monkey cluster mess.  My pharmacy insurance does not cover remicade.  I have the info to write an appeal and my doc will do that for me.  I checked with my medical insurance to see if they will cover it.  Well maybe.  First the need the script from the doc.  Then they enroll me in some mail order pharmacy (PharmaCare) and they mail order the vials of remicade to my house.  OK.  Never have heard of remicade being mail ordered to a patients house and I told them that.  BUT until they have the doctors script in their hot little hands they can not tell me if remicade is covered and what my out of pocket for it will be.  ISNT THAT JUST PEACHY!!!  So if it isn't covered we have already decided to stay the course with humira because it does help somewhat and without it I would be stuck in a wheelchair.  Considering I live on the 2nd floor and drive stick shift cars that would really suck lol.  But hey ya get the good parking spots in the freezing cold winter lol.  Man I really need a vacation lol.

At least Danny finally has slept!!!!

wow, a two fer one dr appt. I really like your Rheumy! I understand his not wanting to give mtx to Danielle. Hopefully the plaquenil will do the job!

Glad Danny slept. How about you???

I want your rhumy!!

Hopefully Plaquenil will be the med. that can help your Danielle. I've been on it now for about 5 months. I'm down to 4mg of Pred (from 10mg) and so far holding my own for the most part.

Glad Danny finally slept!

I think your RD is the ideal dr that every dr should base himself off of.  He is awesome!!!  Hopefully the Plaquinil does the trick for her so that she can get off the pred.  Hope your ins covers the remicade as well!  Im sure everyone in your house is glad Danny got some sleep eh?

It is so crazy what we have to go through to get the medication that helps us!

FORM OF............

CRIPPLE PEOPLE! YEAH!

Okay, that was wrong....haha

I am so glad he was able to talk to both you and Danielle and I am glad Danny spoke up for you.  Wow!!  There are great men that will fight for their women!! Go Danny, and am glad he is sleeping.  Maybe YOU can get some sleep.

I know the fight with insurance.  They are trying to bill Somebody for my knee, saying it had to be an accident.  Hmmm!  I have had two other surgeries on the other knee, and no accident.  Just arthritis.  I may be going through the same thing with Remicade.  I do not think the Military insurance will budge on covering it.  I feel your pain, all of it!

Take care and Sleep girl, sleep!

If it covers chemo therapy and it does not cover remicade you have a very winnable appeal.

Don't deal with it alone...this is where the dr's insurance benefits person comes into ply.  They do a pretty good job of knowing how to work the various systems.

Here is some info from remicade' website about insurance coverage

I hope both you and Daielle feel better soon

Gramma, you do need a vacation, dearie.

Sometimes I would like to be able to switch RA off, go have a holiday and then come back, lol. In my dreams....der.

I'm sending prayers that Plaquenil will help your daughter.  I'm so sorry to hear she is having to go through this too.  I hope that you can get coverage through your insurance.  I understand that!  I am no longer on any biologics for that reason.  Poo!  Praying that your insurance will come through for you.

Hope you both get some good sleep tonight.

Hugs,

Jen

Sounds like you have a great doctor! I hope everything gets sorted out well with the meds for both you and Danielle. We had to appeal once to get an rx covered and we won, you should go for it. That is interesting about mtx. My daughter was on it 2 years as a teen and has problems with her cycle now. I will have to see if it could have been from the mtx. I have been a bit worried about it. Take care of yourself too!

Laker

Can you up the Humira to every 10 days or every week?

Gramma and Daneille you are so blessed to have such a caring Dr. Seems to be a minority when it comes to really good RD sadly. Hope the wrist bands help you both and Danny continues to have sweet dreams Buckeye...thanks bunches for the website.  I am going to print it and use it when I get back with the insurance company.  We are hoping beyond hope that our medical insurance will cover it.  The website has given me a ray of hope.  Thanks again!!!

Cheesehead...man I love typing that...it's feels all home-y and stuff lol...that is one option I am going to ask about til we get this straightened out with the insurance company.  What I did find out is that they would mail order the vials to my rheumy office.  My insurance however does cover home infusions.  Wouldn't that be great!!!!  Lay on the couch...snuggle with the dog...have my fav blankie...etc.  My rheumy's office does have a nice set up for infusions.  La-z-boys...flat screen HD tv on the wall....blankets...books...movies...I can bring my mp3 player or my portable dvd player.

My rheumy will write a letter of appeal and I'm sure my pcp will get involved too.  I am going to call him tomorrow too.  We also have talked with our Union rep and he has pointed us in the right direction on whom to call at the Union Hall for Union backing and whom to speak with at corporate.  Thankfully...corporate is only 6 minutes from our house lol.

I just don't get it.  Is it the classification of meds the reason my husbands company declined to have the remicade covered under our pharmacy plan?  I mean the stuff is cheaper than Humira.

Katie...I knew you would get my cartoon rip off reference lol.
