PA - Purple Toes | Arthritis Information

Hi everyone, I am back from a couple of years ago, but now I have a little more sanity and time for the interaction.  I was recently to my Rheumy and he said something about my toes turning purple.  Can anyone enlighten me about this.  My trouble when I go to the dr is that I don't process what he says to me quick enough to ask a question, then he is out the door.  (is this another symptom of the disease of PA?  I am switching dr's due to a move to a different area.  I am going to take someone with me from now on, if at all possible!  Blessing to you all,

Okay, so this might be a little disturbing as no one has posted at all but over 20 people have viewed!  What does that mean?

Did he ask you how much your toes turn purple??  Usually doctors don't like purple extremities, because it means lack of circulation.  Did he ask about diabetes or heart disease??

I have Raynauds. Has your doctor mentioned this? It effects my fingers and toes but rarely do they turn colors for me. It is common though for them to turn colors. You might mention it to your doctor. Do they feel cold at all?

I have Raynaud's as well. That is most likely the culprit.

I have Raynauds and both my fingers and toes turn purple. It has gotten worse in the last year and now they turn yellowish white and hurt a lot! It means your blood vessels are constricting in response to cold or stress and interfering with your circulation. Sometimes if it gets really bad you can take meds that help. Mainly you just need to try not to get to cold and warm up if you notice it happening.

It's a symptom of Lupus and could also be Raynauds. It is VERY common to have Raynauds with other AI issues. Thanks so much.  The doc tested me for Lupus, negative!  Yay!  I am blessed for that I know.  I will keep a watch on it.  I don't have diabetes, but I do have high blood pressure.  I had rheumatic fever, a rash on my lower legs was prominent and it is now purple at times.  At this time, my heart is functioning fine, no back wash in the valves.  I will make sure to talk to my new RA about that too...if I remember,

I have two things that cause my going blue.  Either my asthma medication isn't working right which causes blue body parts all over, or i have too much swelling in an area.

I have had blue fingers due to swollen wrist, blue toes due to swollen foot etc.

Definately see your doctor about it.
