Rx for RA patient with liver impairment | Arthritis Information

Hi guys,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask questions about rx for RA, but I think I would give it a try. I have an uncle who have had RA for almost a year and is not on proper treatment.

I think DMARDs are good for general case of RA but he also has hepatitis C and he had his gallbladder and part of his small intestine removed and has a hx of intermittant small intestine obstruction, which seems to CI SSZ.

Does anyone know what DMARD(s) is good for conditions like this?

Thanks!
Many of the arthritis drugs seem to be hard on the liver.  The best person to answer a question like this, KJ, would be a rheumatologist that is familiar with all his medical issues.  The DMARDS and the anti-TNFs are very powerful drugs -- and second-guessing a rheumatologist when a patient has such a complicated medical history is just out of our area of expertise.

I can't back this up right now but, I know alot of the DMARDS are hard on the liver. I don't think (recall) that the biologics are as hard. Maybe that is the best way to go?

Mike
