Amitriptylin? I got an RX for it, I am not exactly sure why I was RXed it, I think it was for the IC. I am not sure. But she did ask me if I thought I was depressed, I told her I did not think so.

Who knows what the hell it is for. I guess I am going to take it and see what happens.

Oh and she also asked if I was sleeping at night, I told her most times not. So, maybe that is why it says to take a bedtime?

Joonie my sister takes that. It's one of the older anti depressants but they have just learned rescently of other things it is good for. I know one of them is as a sleep aid. I can't remember what else though. Google it

Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant, been around a very long time.  Besides depression (and there are many new meds that work as well or better, so it is not often prescribed for this any more) it is used to treat nerve pain and as a sleep med.  How much did they put you on?  Be sure to take it before bedtime because it is likely to make you quite sleepy.

The downside of this drug is that it can cause weight gain, just so you know.

It's a tricyclic anti-depressant, but it is used for insomnia, nerve pain and fibromyagia among other things. I take nortriptyline which is a similiar drug for nerve pain and it has improved my sleep a great deal. It will make you sleepy so you need to take it before bed. I take it about an hour before bed. Hope it helps.

I was prescribed amitriptyline early on. It is an AD, but used in low doses, helps with sleep and pain. It worked very well.

Joonie, that's an antidepressant...........what all did you talk about with her?? Did she really not explain to you why she was giving you that med? That seems....well.....kind of decietful on her part...

However, it has been gived to people to treat migranes, insomnia, chronic pain.....etc etc.. maybe she was trying to give you a med that can do double or triple duty.

Help you sleep, take away some of the aches, and make you happy all at once. :)

It's a drug that counteracts your addiction to Wal-Mart.  When taken in high doses it supresses your urge to shop altogether.

Not really...it's an antidepressant.

I guess for me it is to be the all-in-one pill

Get rid of the pain from my IC, help with my drepression, and help me to sleep.

For the sh*t BETTER do more than one thing........hahaha

Joonie, I'm gonna have to come get you....you gotta be more proactive with your care honey.  You should KNOW why you are taking a med

Phats

Hey Phats when you go get Joonie will you swing by Fla and get Katie too

I do not know, I was just in a fog about yesterday. The doctor mentioned the word "pregnant", and then I started to panic. And then from then on I just did not listen to well after that. I was having an ADD moment. Then I forgot half the stuff she talked with me about.

I blame it on RA Brain.

Hope you feel better soon Joonie. No baby? For sure?

Hey now.....leave me outa this...........this is TOTALLY a tackle Joonie thread......you all get me enough as it is!

Now Joonie, I have to agree here. You need to be aware of what you're taking and why.

AND ARE YOU PREGNANT?!?!?!??!???!?!?

Yeah no baby for sure. She tested my urine.. it came back bladder infection and negative for pregnancy. She seems to be worried about me having an IUD. She told me I should have gotten my tubes tied or had a hystorectomy.

I have alot of meds, I have took that I was not really sure why I was taking them. I am one of those you RX it, and if after reading the leaflet that comes with it, I decide if I am going to take it or not.

Now, if they tell me I need to take it and what exactly it is for, I will take it, without reading the leaflet.

Yesterday, was a really bad mental day for me. I was tired, wanted to go back to sleep, and she thru me for a loop when she mentioned the "P" word. Because I remember when I was preggo with son, I went to the dr, to complain of pain where I am complaining of it now, and it came back no bladder infection and preggo. Then I went into thinking darn IUD failed me, and how hubby was an ass and then she came back and said Not pregnant, but had bladder infection, and blood in my urine. So... I was still in panic mode and did not really pay attention too much more. after the "P" word was mentioned.

Is Pamlar or Pamlor (Something like that) the same thing? I took that early on for pain/sleep problems but It didn't really help much and I didn't like the idea of taking something for depression for those reasons. It might not be the same thing....but I'm thinking it's simular? Sorry; I'm likely no help at all.

Hope you feel better soon Joonie. No baby? For sure?

[/QUOTE]

Pamelor is Nortriptyline; I believe it is a metabolite of amitriptyline (brand name Elavil).  Amitriptyline is sedating; it is often used for chronic pain.  When used for pain, it is prescribed in much lower dosages then for depression.
I've known people who have had great results when using it for pain.

My own personal experience - I was given a trial of Zoloft (another antidepressant) for extreme PMS mood swings (I wanted to reach out and punch someone).  Within a week of taking the Zoloft (50mg), I noticed that my arthritis pain was significantly diminished.  I was amazed!
Well, congratulations on your, um...bladder infection!  That just doesn't come out sounding quite right.  Hope the meds clear it up soon and you're feeling yourself again.  Wait, that doesn't sound quite right either.  How about this...I'm glad the doc found out the cause of your pain and was able to prescribe something that will make it better and that it will work at the speed of light so that when you wake up tomorrow, it will all be like a dream.

Joonie hun we're just pokin' at you. I can understand being spacey and stuff in an appt like that. :)

I hope this med helps you, it really sounds like something that could work for you. Let us know!!

As far as getting your tubes tied, is that an option? Do you have an IUD right now? And is she thinking that part of the cause of your infections? Maybe that's something you should look into.

At the first appt I had with her she asked me what type of BC I was on, I told her IUD. She said "so you plan on having more kids?" I said no. She said well with the way your JRA is you should have opted for tubes being tied or historectomy, since it got worse after the birth of your son. I told her the long complicated story about how I was going to get my tubes tied, but my gyno never mentioned it, and he suggested IUD.

Anyways... she thinks since I plan on having no more kids, to do one of those 2. I also have a cyst on my ovary which is very painful. SO, she still sounded like IUD was not the best method for me at my last visit

Joonie - I'm with Katie on this one...tie your tubes already!
