Help with Dry Skin | Arthritis Information

Hi all, please give me your suggestions for reducing this dry skin. My dermatologist said, "mtx contributes to dry skin' , hummm. Then gave me tubes of sun block.

Any suggestions? I'm not very good at rubbing on the creams and oils. I take 'too hot' of showers, so I've heard. No baths. I jsut don't feel 'hydrated' Drinking plenty of water  should help keep your skin hydrated!! Oh god yes MTX totally dried out my skin.

As has been mentioned, drink loads. What also helped moisturise was applying baby oil all over just after I'd showered/bathed, whilst my skin was still damp. Made it much easier to apply. If your skin is still dry afterwards, apply some more moisturiser on top (I found the Body SHops body butter excellent)
i drink heaps of water but still have really dry skin. our water dries me out there is a lot of chlorine in at the moment , it smells like a swimming pool . lucky we only drink rain water. so as soon as i get out the shower i smother on moisturiser . i found one that is fragrance and preservartative free as i get psoriasis . I use a humidifier when the air gets dry (helps with skin and sinus problems!).  When my skin gets really dry in the winter, I shower every other day (still spot-cleaning the "problem areas", of course! I'm not too far from Chicago and I've been loving these hot days.  It's gonna be so cold so soon that I will NEVER complain about heat.  Heat might be uncomfortable sometimes, but you get to go around in cut offs and a tank top AND it doesn't hurt like cold does.   I gotta get out of Michigan!!!!

My GP have me a sample bottle of Oilatum... used for people who have eczema. Its great stuff, a capful in the bath is great... dont know if you have the equivalent in the US.

Unfortunately, it doesnt make a difference to the skin on my feet.... I have to

Upside,I'm not considererd a hobbit for about 3 weeks after that

I'm on MTX too.

Call me crazy but I use good old fashioned olive oil after a hot bath a few times a week. The olive oil soaks deep into my skin and it dosent leave my skin greasey either. I also use it on my face because it helps the wrinkles stay away. It's cheap, but you gotta buy the virgin olive oil I prefer first cold pressed. My skin is really improving.

I threw out all those creams and now have more room in the bathroom. I wear light make up ( revlon 3 in 1) 1 step compact makeup over the oil. The olive oil really soaks in deep.  Maybe I'm blind but I think it looks good.

I also, drink lots of water.

There are too many unnatural products with all kinds of junk in them that dont belong on my skin. If Im going to be in the sun longer than normal I put on a sun screen. I am not a sun worshiper.
