ankylosing Spondolosis | Arthritis Information

I just came back from an appt at cleveland clinic. I see a rheumy their for questionable RA but I have been seronegative. I have been having a lot of hip stiffness and pain and sacroiliac pain. He ordered a hip xray and he just sent me a letter to have a genetic test for Ankylosing Spondolosis or reactive arthritis. I looked up the definition and I have had alot of the symptoms but I had not heard of this before. Does anyone have this along with the RA? Hello,

Not me, but I know there are some out there who do.  Good luck!

I seem to have (sero-negative also) a Spondylitis called Psoriatic Arthritis that hits my SI joints.  Dr. also Dx'd RA but being sero-negative who knows.  I do know that the Enbrel and MTX have helped some.

Take care

Hi,

I have Psoriatic Arthritis and in one of it's many forms it can mimic AS by targetting the sacro-iliac joint. I also have swelling and pain in my feet, left knee, chest, hands, elbows, shoulders, neck, and pain in my jaw and skull. It's due to the involvement of so many smaller joints that they know it's most likely to be PA. Unfortunately the sero-negative diseases are tricky to diagnose, mostly the Dr's have to go by the pattern of symptoms and rule out different things to find the most likely cause so I sympathise with you at this uncertain time. The pain in my back is definately the worst thing ever for me, it causes so much fatigue that I feel I need to sleep constantly and finding a comfortable position to sleep in is sometimes impossible.

Good Luck!

Hi There, I have psoriatic arthritis along with RA and OA and it's really difficult to sort it all out and treat.  The PA has caused spondylitis and I have some major lower back pain that radiates to both buttocks.  Most of my small joints are affected.  My sciatic nerve is damaged also. PA has been far worse than the RA.  More painful and more inflammation. Much harder to control with meds. I've had a lumbar lam with decompression and removal of rheumatic nodules from my spine.  They did a general clean up when they were in there for the decompression.

Remicade and MXT has helped up to a point and I just reached that point.  Had knee replacement 4 weeks ago and because I had to stop meds prior to surgery I'm flaring and it seems to be PA not RA that's flaring.

It sounds as if your medical team is on top of this and they'll have a treatment plan for you soon.  The sooner you start meds the less damage you'll have occur.  Lindy
