Has anyone switched from Neurontin to | Arthritis Information

Lyrica? I asked my Neurologist about switching and he didn't think it was necessary, but my new pain dr. brought it up and thought it would be a good idea. Has anyone done this? I'm at a fairly high dose of neurontin - 800mg in am, 800mg in afternoon and 1200mg at night. Would I have to taper down in order to switch over? Also, I've heard that lyrica causes weight gain, and I really dont need more of that! Pred has kept me from losing. Thanks for any input!

Hi Deb:  Strange you should ask this because I just got back from my RD appt. and he's switched me from Neurontin to Lyrica 75 mg 2 X daily. I'm going to give it a try and I have tapered Neurontin down to 900 mg. daily.  I took a 300mg. Neurontin this morning at 6:30 a.m. and just took a Lyrica at 3:30 p.m. and won't take anymore Neurontin.

I told Stan that if I start doing odd things, pass out, become incoherent, etc. to call an ambulance.  I googled and found out all of the side effects and weight gain is my primary concern.  I've had to up Pred. to 20 mg. and I put on 10 lbs. in the last 3 weeks!!!!!  Am going back on my low fat, low carb diet tomorrow.

best of luck on it. My concern is weight gain as well. I should do a bit more research before my next appt. If you don't mind my asking, why did rheumy change your med to Lyrica? I hope it works out well for you!I have some nerve issues and fibro has decided to act up.  Nerve issues are from sciatica and mixed with the fibro I've been miserable.  My legs are achy, painful tight tendons and muscles, and feet are burning and it feels like I'm walking on glass.  He felt that Lyrica was a better choice.  It's just been approved for use for fibro.  Just took my first capsule so I'll keep you updated on how I do.  I can't gain anymore weight.  I have to get the lbs off my knees and legs.   Lindy.
