Hi, just found this message board. I have RA and it has been wildly out of control for years, misdiagnosed because of negative RA factor and fibromyalgia.
I was just officially diagnosed in the past few months, and so I'm trying to come to terms in my mind with this diagnosis, the possibilities, the hopes, and how to take care of myself the best way. I'm taking 20 mg prednisone twice a day and 6 methotrexate on Saturdays. They tried weaning off the prednisone and I became so bad again that they had to put me back on 20 mg a day for the last two weeks, and for at least another couple of weeks, then I'll try 15 mg a day.
So nice to find someone to talk to here! Reading over posts and feeling at home already. Thanks for being here!!

I'm on the MTX shots, but went off the prednisone almost three years ago. I developed Cushing's Syndrome after having been on it for over 15 years consecutively. I have a few other anti-inflammatory drugs that I'm on at the moment. My rheumatoid factor was down to 242 in July, but my SED rate has been around normal.
Good luck with your treatment, and remember that everyone here understands what you're going through.

Nice to have you here although would be nicer if we weren't all connected by RA. I've had RA since birth. I haven't been on any of the new medicine for RA. I've been able to keep it under control with plaquenil and naproxen so far.

Good Morning Floradora and welcome. You'll find plenty of info here and some really nice people. I'm also trying to taper off Pred. Am at 20mg and tapering 1mg a week. We can cry the "taper blues" together. Lindy

I have fibro as well and its a pretty crappy combination! Has your doc talked to you about adding another dmard to help get things under control so you can ween off the prednisone a bit? Hi, and a big welcome! I'm glad you are getting help. Almost everyone here has gone through the 'denial' stages of this disease , the maybe it will go away stage, etc. Doesn't work. Right! Oh, yes the mtx will help you but as others have said with a big flare problem we usually have another medication added. As you see my line up of meds , the mtx, remicade and pred...all are working to get my disease under control. I still have a few places that hurt, feet/hands, but much , much better. Please remember people are almost always here, at all times of the day and night. MTX has been a great medication for me. I've been on 25mg for years now and have had much succes. Hope you will as well.
