Fractured ribs | Arthritis Information

HI guys, I explained yesterday that I have fractured ribs, stress fractures from osteoporosis apparently (from, yep you guessed it, the steroids) last night they became extremely painful when I went to bed and they have been the samed today, getting worse laying down again, I have done all I can like ice, heat, endone, pred, no antiinflammatory due to ti being recalled but seriously do any of you think there is anything else I can do?  I reckon I am just stuck like this, heeelllllppppp!!!!!  Janie. Me again, Janie.

This tablet is called Actonel Combi...you take six days of calcium and then the drug on the 7th. It may help. I hope something does, darl.

Do your doctors know how bad this is? How much pain you are in?

Maybe if you have a serious painkiller in the house you should take it and if not maybe they are also an option to get you through until these ribs heal some.
Thanks Cordelia, believe it or not I am on that drug, but apparently too late,  was only allowed to have it on the PBS once I had sustained a fracture, 2 years ago in my left foot, I am seeing my GP on Thurs, hopefully she can suggest something, but she is always telling me there is nothing else she can give me for pain, that is why she sent me to the pain clinic, but they are ridiculous, all they expect you to do is learn to deal with the pain, meditate and drink warm milk, I got so angry when I was staying in there that I said to a male nurse, howe about I kick you in the privates and offer you a glass of warm milk?  ha ha funny now but at the time, I was livid and in agony.  So I don't rate pain clinics!!!!  Let me know when you are going to Nambour for the infusion, I would really love to know how you get on, cheers, you sound like a lovely person Cordy, (yep I have been reading all the posts, hope its ok that I called you that).  How are you faring, tell me a bit about you, I am very interested, hugs Janie. Be careful with the ribs and try not to put too much pressure on them.  YOu can puncture a lung and that would be disaterous. YOu can also be taped, which would severely limit your movement and of some it is the answer.  I would try to go to my GP earlier, because the pain itself, and if you have to wait two more days.  You may be kicking people a lot.  Thanks Shelley, I might just do that!  Cheers Janie. Doctors, doctors, doctors...geez, mine won't send me to a pain clinic until she tries me on some serious painkillers and yours won't give you anything and sent you to a pain clinic.

I thought the privates statement was absolutely justified and very very true. That is what it is like.

She can do more for the pain...tons...I had this problem too until the weekend before last I was in such pain from the RA I was in tears and people on here encouraged me to insist on my doctors giving me what I needed. So I turned up and said, okay, I have been in severe pain for three years and another seven before that...I have not been offered pain meds, I have not asked for them, now this is what I want and I gave her a list of options...Tramadol, Panadeine Forte, Fentanyl Patch or MS Contin. She decided to put me on Celebrex so she could then get me on MS Contin meanwhile I am on Tramadol as well in the interim. We have to be so goddamn assertive with this disease, they can do more Janie, you just have to get through to them you are not taking no for a bloody answer.

I was so fed up about the pain issue I was actually prepared to conduct a sit in if I didn't get any satisfaction from my doctors...I did from both...I was just not gonna more until I got some sense. Thanks Cordy, Believe it or not, I must have misled you, my GP is wonderful, she tried me on MSContin, allergic to that, Tramadol, allergic to that, Duragesic patch (fentanyl), allergic to that, Norspan patch, allergic to that, panadeine forte, allergic to that, I am currently on Endone, which takes the edge off but not enough at times, so where to next.

I am now 43, was officially dx in 2000 with RF498, and terrible swelling, stiffness and pain all over, 3 weeks after birth of my 7 yr old.  Was receiving some injections for joint pain in 1985 when 22 for some form of arthritis, but didn't take it seriously, got better on its own, I wonder????

I can't drive anymore, lived at Beerwah and had to move because stopped driving while I was there.  Now too much pain, stiffness and brain fog!!!  Hugs Janie.
Bugger, now I can see why she says she does not know what else to give you, there has to be something you are not allergic too, woman. That is not good.

My gp is good too. It helps.

I know Beerwah well, it is just down the road. I am still driving but only through sheer will and determination sometimes like today when it was very, very difficult, but I am a single parent and live 20 mins from town so I just do. Last year, I had a fall from RA and broke my elbow which they can't cast, I had to rest it (yeah, right) in a sling for it to heal. But I had to get Neve into town to school so twice a day I ripped off the sling and drove to town, came home, put sling back on. Did it for a month. Amazing what we can do out of sheer will when we have too.

And I well understand the pain, stiffness and brain fog, boy do I.

I will let you know when I am going to Nambour and what happens. And, yes, Cordy is just fine.

Poor you JanieI hope the pain eases.  It sounds like you have tried all the pain meds I am familiar with, except maybe toradol or morphine?

Janie,

Sorry your having such a rough time. Hopefully the GP can give you something that might help.

Janie, Do you have kids and are they old enough to stay with someone.  I would probably go to Hosipital, and see if they could give you a shot of something to put you sound asleep.  They could also monitor for a reaction, and will have much more variety.  Also, do you have a chemist that you can ask about pain meds to get an idea of what you COULD take?  I have made myself a pest to a couple of chemists in town, and will talk to them about my concerns.  I am allergic to all kinds of NSAIDS and asprin based pain relief, so all I get is tylenol, and that is like putting a bandaide on an artery!!Thanks again guys, lots of ideas there, so I will ask my Dr, trying to see her today rather than wait for tomorrow, I really appreciate all your efforts and time you took to answer me, cheers again friends.  Hugs Janie. I had this a few years back and they told me nothing could be done (in the Uk)they just advised that I had my ribs "bound"up with a wide bandage and they would heal on their own along with taking painkillers.
Hope this helps and you feel better soon.
Get plenty of rest and restict your movement.

After years of pred. I got in the attic to get something, I was on a ladder.  when I leaned over a beam it broke my ribs on right side, it hurt so bad I jump and hit the left side while trying to keep from falling and broke ribs on left  side.... It hurt so bad and they would do nothing but pain pills which didn't help.  I know what you are going thou.  so sorry.....It will get better, just takes time.   take care hope it gets better real soon.         & nbsp;

  Rusty

They have started me on actonel and Forteo which is a injection that is suppose to rebuild the bones.  I sure hope it works.
