OT - Americans losing jobs | Arthritis Information

I went to the Jewel Food store in my area ( Grocery Store) and they are adding even more self checkouts. They dont give you a discount to check yourself out either. I mentioned this to the checker and she said they are just eliminating jobs so they dont have to pay wages or benefits.

I really hate the idea of everyone works but Americans.  Just another way of taking our jobs.

What is my granddaughter gonna do for a living??
A lot of jobs are being outsourced also.  Especially customer service positions.

thinkthin, ive noticed that at the Jewel by me also.  I never thought about it till you said it but they should give a discount if you use the self checkout.

I shop at Jewel, but I refuse to use the self-checkouts.  They're a pain in the @ss, it takes me longer to scan than it takes them, there is no room to bag up your stuff, and dammit, the prices at Jewel are high enough.  I shouldn't have to do their work for them so they can get rid of their employees.

OMG i only shop there if i HAVE to cause their prices are so high so when i do go its only for a few things.

I shop at Ultra foods.  It used to be Cub foods. do you guys have them up north by you?

We don't have a Jewel store, but their used to be a Jewel truck that sold food door to door, like the Schwan man.  I used to love it when my mom bought something. I guess it was the novelty of it. [QUOTE=kelsaysmommy]

Never heard of Ultra - I usually just stick with Jewel, unless I'm really lazy, when I do Peapod (grocery delivery service, for those outside the US).  Usually, I don't mind paying more at Jewel, because the employees are union, they have benefits and they make decent money (compared to other grocery stores in the area, anyway).  But this latest thing with the self-checkouts really pisses me off!
We don't have Ultra either.  We have Kroger, Meijer, and I think there's a K-mart around here that sells groceries, but I'm not sure.People are losing their jobs everywhere, not just in the USA.

There needs to be a certain rate of unemployment and job insecurity so
people will be willing to work for less under worse conditions. I like Ultra...on about 90% of the food you save 20% off of other store prices.
