To take my folic acid.  Is that really bad??  i didnt take it for the longest time but I told that to my dr and he didnt seem to concerned about it.  I dunno if its cause my labs always come back normal or what but Ive been better now about taking it cause i put it right next to the rest of my meds.

If you get the mouth sores

Lets just hope that does not happen to you Linda

maybe put a calendar on your fridge and mark it off everyday as a reminder.?

Mouth sores just might do the trick!!

I didn't take it with my doctors approval for the first two years. It's not going to hurt you if you miss a dose.

Try getting a daily pill box and keep in the same place you keep your tooth brush. Once you get into a routine of taking your pills at the same time everyday it's easier. Also if you have a daily box you'll see if you missed a dose or not.

I've been on methotrexate for several years and have never been on folic acid. My RD only believes on putting his patient's on it if they are experiencing side effects from the mtx. I think I posted this before, but he said that the efficacy of methotrexate is decreased by 5 mg. for every mg. of folic acid. Has anyone else been told this??It's also supposed to prevent hair loss from the methotrexate. [QUOTE=Brisen]I've been on methotrexate for several years and have never been on folic acid. I've always wondered that myself, since methotrexate is a folic acid antagonist.  So in theory, methotrexate and folic acid go after each other, and if you dump more folic acid into the system, at least some of the methotrexate gets tied up antagonizing all the new folic acid.  Of course, biochem is never that simple.  I'll try to look through my pharmacology texts and see what I come up with.
