irregular periods anyone else? | Arthritis Information

Hello, I have been having very heavey and irratic periods for about 4 months now. I have been diagnosed with uterine fibroids, not uncommon in a 40 yr. old woman. However this is like I am constantly bleeding to some degree, and then a very heavey period for up to 2 weeks? I have read that Lupus can cause this kind of thing, I am UCTD, Sero Positive and positive ANA . Just wondered if this happens to anyone else.
Thanks!Have you talked to your doctor about this? It's def. something you need to mention!!I have an OB appointment in a month and a RD appoint within a few weeks of that, I will for sure bring it up.Yeah, it could be so many things! I wish I had more advice, sorry!

I hate it when the flow is not like it was last month, and you have to go and buy a different caliber of tampon. And then the last 2 days of it you have to go back to the one you had. Sooo.... annoying! I wish mine would run away from home, be adbucted and thrown into a river, to wash out to sea to never be heard or seen from again. *nods head*

Edited to change lake to river, as a lake does not empty out to sea, a river does.

"a different caliber of tampon"

I can honestly say I have never seen or heard the words "caliber" and "tampon" used in the same sentence before.....

I don't know if I should clap, or just walk away....

Men please don't read this, if you do, don't get mad at me if you get queasy. Cover your ears.

Anyway,b4 I got my hyster last summer I had to wear two pads and a tampon at the same time, and I had to change every two hrs. To top it off my cycle was every 21 days. I was only 33 and ppl acted so sorry for me that i had to get a hyster. PUHLEASE! I have 6 kids, i don't need a dern uterus. I was very anemic, and couldn't wait to get it out of me. Just know that this is not a lupus or RA problem, as the majority of women who have hysters for this are healthy women. I recommend hystersisters message boards. Wealth of knowledge and support. I still kept my ovaries thou. I highly believe there's a estrogen connection w/ ra. Seems the higher it is, the less symptoms of ra most women have.

ps, i never had fibroids, and the pathology report came back normal. I just had a big uterus. I ept my ovaries

The armory in my bathroom is fortified with many different calibers of tampon.  "Aunt Flo" likes to bring surprises when she visits... and I'm armed and ready for the biatch!

I have the same problem but it's caused by fibroid not RA.  I don't have Lupus however so can't comment on any connection between them.

I had the exact same problem caused by a fibroid cyst. I use birth control pills to moderate this, but I've heard topical papaya cream can help. Also, MTX can really mess with your periods. It's probably not serious but do mention it to your doctor. Thank You all, I guess it is just possible to have a few different things wrong with one body, I always feel as though it is all connected soemhow. To those who have had hysterectomies, did your disease activity change at all? What about keeping ovaries versus not, hormones, oh gosh, not more medicine!! And yes, I too have many callibers fo tampons too..

I had initially asked for a hyster... but was told they'd rather do the ablation, you know the usual.... tooo young, not major surgery etc etc. After the above I told them I wanted a hyster and to put me on the list. The lists in the UK are long but I got a date for end of Jul 02.

In Jun 02 I collapsed, was rushed to hospital in agony, completely out of it. Had scepticemia (sorry I dont think you spell it that way), kidney failure.... very poorly, two days of intravenous antibiotics and fluids to clean the kidneys and I had an emergency hysterectomy. My uterous was full of pusssss

Due to some well meaning people who thought they knew what was best for me, I end up very ill, having to have major surgery through the muscles, causing a scar (although I did give the surgeon instructions that I wear a bikini and I didnt want staples... and I wanted that nice internal stitching... which I'm pleased to tell you I got

Having had a hyster is the best thing that ever happened to me (the above notwithstanding). I still have my ovaries so ovulate every 6 weeks or so and there's no need for an armory of pads and tampons etc.

You did ask..... good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Ok does anyone else miss at least 2 periods a year? I seem to do that, but only after I started taking the "big guns" for my RA. It has been going on like that since after I had my son. I always seem to not have a period at least twice a year since having my son.

Talk about paranoid, miss a period and freaking out and paranoia ensues.

Hey hon - Prednisone can mess with your cycles.  Probably not a big deal; be sure to talk to your gay gyne about it

Joonie I dont miss mine at all

I'm sure when you are on lots of drugs it must have an affect on your system, but it wouldnt hurt to ask.... could just be your normal. My normal was every 6 - 8 weeks or whenever my body felt like it! Try getting pregers when you're body works like that (what a chore
