OT - Mattel Recalls | Arthritis Information

"Mattel has recently voluntarily recalled some products for two different reasons: impermissible use of lead paint and risks associated with small, high-powered magnets."

LOT'S of toys recalled, and I just don't get it. How in the world, in this day and age, does a company as huge as Mattel make the "impermissible" mistake of using lead paint??

Because it was made in China. China sure is screwing things up a lot lately. I think it is a conspiracy. China is out to get us.

Edited to add: Hubby says we should nuke them all. Yeah, that is why he will never be president of the united states. He would nuke everyone, and half the US and only he and a few playboy playmates would still be alive and he would become ruler of "christopia".

joonie39310.861400463The chinese guy that owned the factory got the paint from a friend, obviously on the cheap.  He actually committed suicide because of losing honour.    The more we buy cheap asian imports the more this type of thing will happen.  There is very little in the way of quality control and very little way that it can be policed by the US, Canada, Australia, until it is too late.Well, be it made in China ,Taiwan, or where ever, where are our(US) inspectors? A few mistakes is bound to slip through(especially with all the imports) but MILLIONS in one toy maker?? Jeez.

Thanks for posting this; it's so important to stay on top of it!

I can't tell you how many of these products I'm going to have to recall from my daughter's play stuff!  Ugh!  Thank you so much for the post.  Very scary stuff.  :(

The really disturbing thing is that Mattel says there are more recalls likely!

A doctor on the news recommended that if your child has been playing with any of these toys you should take them to your pediatrician for a blood test.  I think I would, no matter what!

This is so scary!  My daughter has lead posioning however not from any of these toys.  The house I live in had lead paint and the inspector didn't do a thorough enough job when my mother bought it.  He only tested 3 rooms however there was lead in the 3 rooms he didn't test.  He also didn't give her a lead certificate so we have no recourse for his lack of full testing.  The problems lead posioning can cause is huge.  Brain damage, learning disabilities etc.  Thankfully I lucked out and my daughter is fine.  I can't believe a company as big as Mattel wouldn't ensure that their contractors weren't using lead paint.
