Nope see nothing about the rules for spamming.

Joonie,

Lucky there is no AI cop, we'd both have a briefcase of tickets. Here is some additional rules from AI:

Home

We'd like to share those websites with everyone and we'll list them all here. To list your website you must be a member of the Arthritis Insight Community, if you're not, you can register now. Your site cannot contain **ography or anything else we don't like*.

To list your site, send us the url along with a brief description of the website. Although not required a link back to us would be greatly appreciated!

Who would have thought Joonie, a place to freely advertise a website here on the arthritisinsight website, too cool, isn't it? What a great place arthritisinsight is!

Have you tried to submit a site to them to see if they would respond? I mean I know I have sent the site owner quite a few emails and tried to contact them and they never responded. I mean wouldn't you think they would want to do something about problematic members that are running off their potential link clickers to make them some mulah? I know I would.

Joonie,

Look at how many come thru these AI doors every day. See how many members their are? Find another arthritis forum doing so well. Go ahead. AI has traffic that only other forums can dream about, AI must be doing something right, right? What would you do to increase the traffic here at AI Joonie, moderate it, until all that's talked about is oprah and the color of the panties and bras? That's the problem with the other forums that wish they could be number one. AI doesn't send spammers or undercover salespeople to other forums. AI doesn't endorse using other forum PM system to try to recruit new members, AI is number one because of the way it's run, number one Joonie, more traffic than any other forum. Why do you think you can make it better?

LEV

They get more traffic because they promoted the site right meaning they got added to every search engine, they got the right target keywords and phrases. All that cost money, which people who just make a arthritis message forum for the "fun of it" do not want to put that much money into it, which is understandable.

AF might have a message board, but I think they do not let the robots search their message board. On here robots are free to roam. I do not think this site has a robot.txt which denies or allows the robots to search a directory. I mean if you googlr hard enough... you can still find remnants of the old site that was hacked into way before us.

I am just saying the site & board actually has no one tending to it often. If you ever notice when you google for something more times than most the first few websites have not been updated in years, but still they are within the first few pages of results. It has to do with how long the has been around without being changed to make the pages harder to find for the robots.

Hmmm, with all these rules, who is around to enforce them?

The AI cops?

Those are the rules you agree to when you sign up. I do not remember reading them when I joined, so I went and found them.

But true no one to enforce them.

I am so glad you posted these lists of rules, they are both wonderful reminders for us all. The first post says that you are not alowed to harrass other members. And the second one about having a place to post your links to other sites doesnt say anything about us not being alowed to also post our links anywhere else on the site or in our signature lines. Thanks for clearing it all up Joonie and Lev. The debate should be officially settled.

On a side note, when sushi first re-opened last year in Dec 06' we had several posts where we offered the link. After about a week we realized that this reposting of the link could be an issue with some members here and so it was agreed by the administrators at sushi (grammaskittles, arriscollwell, and myself) that we would just leave the link in the our signature lines and not continue to post specifically about the sushi site on a regular basis. We have maintained that through out the year and only reposted about the site 11mos later when we made a dramatic site and url change. So with that in mind we have not violated any rules of AI that would be considered harrassment. Even though there are no specific guidelines about spamming here, as the definitions of spamming state that it is repeated unrelated information, we again do not fall into the category either.

Again, thanks for bringing the rules to our attention, we will continue to comply with them here at AI to the best of our ability as we have been members here for  quite some time and still consider this to be a wonderful hub for people seeking help, advice, friendship, and...well even a little bit of drama.

At least this one isn't like another one I visit and black ball certain people from ever going there again. I was told that they ban your IP addy so you can't register at all, ever again. How rude is that. Then they go in and read your PM's. What ever happened to freedom of speech and privacy?

Needless to say, I am leary of sending PM's on any site and posting much about how I really feel.

Just curious, how can a board have rules and not have a moderator to enforce them?

Freedom of speech does not apply to privately owned sites.  Even your employer is allowed to restrict what you say (at least on his/her property and using his/her computers) and read your email.
